A few months back, around Christmas time, I had the idea of doing a shoot with a picture frame with no glass, being within the picture, to then perhaps be framed again outside of it. The very next day, I walked into the local thrift store to find a frame, with no glass, just the right size for what I had in mind, for the handsome fee of £2. It had to be fate.
The project was on and off the burners as I travelled for jobs, but each time I stepped in the studio I sketched and wrote down what I would need, how I could do it, what would look best.
Over the months, I found new items which I just fell in love with; this old green velvet chair being one of them, bought from the same store, months later, this time for £20.
Armed with some fishing wire borrowed from a haberdashery, and with a bold red curtain I found again, in the same store, for £2, the set was ready. Nothing elaborate, and all for less than the cost of an SD Card.
This is my test shot. It’s the visualisation of a project that’s been circling my mind more than half a year.
It’s not perfect… but perfect is boring.
