BREAKING: MPs reject fresh assisted dying bill
MPs have voted against a new attempt to legalise assisted dying in England and Wales.
The bill was narrowly defeated in the House of Commons, with 286 MPs voting against it and 270 voting in favour.
It would have allowed mentally competent adults diagnosed with fewer than six months to live to apply for medical help to end their lives, subject to safeguards.
Supporters described the result as a major setback for terminally ill people seeking greater choice. Opponents welcomed the decision, arguing that vulnerable and disabled people needed stronger protection.
The defeat means the bill will not progress during the current parliamentary session.
Do you agree with the MPs’ decision, or should Parliament reconsider assisted dying?
