Well… here we go again!

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know this little challenge tends to make an appearance every year. If you’re new here…welcome to one of my slightly questionable ideas. 😂

Usually I’m much more organised than this. Usually.

September has emptied my bank account, and Christmas isn’t going to pay for itself. So we’re starting at a spectacular £0.00 and seeing what I can pull off between now and December.

Here’s how we’re doing it this year…

During the week I’ll share everything in my Stories, what I’m trying, how I’m doing it, what works, what absolutely isn’t worth the bother, and the little wins along the way.

Then every Sunday night, I’ll add it all up and reveal the week’s total here on the grid.

No hiding the rubbish weeks either. If I’ve made £4.73 and a packet of crisps, that’s what you’re getting. 😂

I’m actually really excited to see what we can turn that £0.00 into by Christmas.

Five beautiful Pembrokeshire woodlands for when you fancy pulling on your boots and disappearing beneath the trees for a while.

1. CANASTON WOODS

Miles of woodland tracks and trails make Canaston perfect for a proper wander beneath the trees. Follow winding paths through the woods towards the Eastern Cleddau, with plenty of different routes to explore along the way. Beautiful, peaceful and particularly lovely when the leaves start to turn.

2. COLBY WOODLAND GARDEN

There’s much more to Colby than the garden itself. Follow paths through the wooded valley, past streams and little bridges, or head further into the surrounding estate where some of the trails open up to beautiful views towards the coast. One of those places that looks completely different with every season.

3. STACKPOLE

Famous for its lakes and beaches, but the woodland at Stackpole deserves some attention too. Trails wind through the estate beneath mature trees and alongside the water, making it easy to combine woodland, lakes and coast in one walk. Visit in spring and parts of the woodland are transformed by carpets of bluebells.

4. LITTLE MILFORD

A quieter little corner of Pembrokeshire tucked beside the Cleddau. Follow woodland trails beneath towering trees before making your way down towards the river and foreshore. Peaceful, slightly hidden away and perfect when you fancy escaping somewhere that doesn’t feel busy.

5. GWAUN VALLEY

For woodland that feels a little wilder, head for the Gwaun Valley. Wooded hillsides, ferns, streams and little bridges give parts of the valley an almost enchanted feel, with everything from gentle woodland wanders to longer routes towards the surrounding hills. Absolutely gorgeous as the seasons begin to change.

Autumn in Pembrokeshire 🍂

Five places to add to your list for an autumn wander…

01 / ROSEBUSH QUARRY 🍂
Once a thriving slate quarry, Rosebush is now a gorgeous place to explore. The flooded quarry, old workings and surrounding Preseli landscape make it particularly beautiful as the colours start to change.

02 / COLBY WOODLAND GARDEN 🍁
Tucked away in a wooded valley near Amroth, Colby really comes into its own in autumn. Think woodland paths, streams, stepping stones and trees turning all shades of red, orange and gold.

03 / PLUMSTONE MOUNTAIN 🪨
One for the wilder days. The huge rocky outcrop sits amongst open common land, with far-reaching views across Pembrokeshire. Perfect for big skies, rusty bracken and a proper windswept autumn walk.

04 / ABEREIDDI BLUE LAGOON 🌊
This incredible blue-green lagoon is actually a former slate quarry, flooded after a channel was blasted through to the sea. The old quarry remains are still visible around it.

🦭 Autumn note: Access to the Blue Lagoon itself is seasonally restricted for seal pupping, so check current access before you go — the surrounding coastline is still well worth exploring.

05 / STRUMBLE HEAD 🤍
Wild coastline, dramatic sea views and that beautiful lighthouse. It’s also a lovely spot for wildlife watching, particularly during autumn migration — and keep an eye out for seals along the coast too.

Summer might get all the attention, but I think Pembrokeshire is pretty special in autumn. 🍂

My favourite time of year is just around the corner and I’m already spotting the first little signs of it on our walks.

I’m definitely an autumn girl…although I could do without the rain that inevitably comes with it in West Wales 😂

September is Lymphoma Awareness Month 💜

For most people, lymphoma is something they’ve heard of but probably don’t think about very often. Until suddenly it becomes part of your life.

The signs and symptoms can sometimes be vague and easily explained away, so knowing what to look out for matters:
💜 A painless lump or swelling, particularly in the neck, armpit or groin
💜 Drenching night sweats
💜 Unexplained weight loss
💜 Persistent or unexplained itching
💜 Extreme or persistent tiredness
💜 Unexplained high temperatures or fevers
💜 Breathlessness or a persistent cough
💜 Unexplained pain or discomfort

Having one of these symptoms doesn’t mean you have lymphoma,there are many much more common causes. But if something isn’t right, persists, or you notice a new unexplained lump, please get it checked. Don’t be afraid to go back if you’re still concerned.

For us, lymphoma isn’t just something I think about during September. I look at this man and I am grateful, every single day, that he is still here.

There are ordinary days when we’re busy, tired, irritated with each other, laughing about something ridiculous or just getting on with life and somewhere underneath all of that is the knowledge that we got to keep having those ordinary days. That is something I will never take for granted.

So this month, I’m sharing the symptoms of lymphoma in the hope that somebody reads them, recognises something that doesn’t feel right and gets themselves checked.

Awareness really does matter. 💜
