🎭 FAIR CITY EVENTS 2027. BUILDING TOWARDS FIVE FESTIVALS. ONE CITY.
Following the success of the first Perth Fringe, and after speaking to performers, venues and members of the public, we’ve started thinking about what Fair City Events could become in the years ahead.
The long-term ambition is an exciting one.
Five distinctive festivals. A year of live performance. Perth at the heart of it all.
But we also know that building successful festivals takes time, research, investment and a lot of careful planning.
We have no intention of launching events simply to fill dates in a calendar.
We’ll only launch a festival when we believe the programme, venues, performers, audience, finances and operational structure are strong enough to make it work properly.
Our main focus for 2027 therefore remains firmly on Perth Fringe, which will return bigger and longer following the success of its first year.
🎭 Perth Fringe
📅 2nd–19th September 2027.
The first Perth Fringe showed us there is an appetite for accessible live performance in the city. Around 2,500 tickets were sold, with more than £11,000 going directly to performers.
In 2027, we want to build on that foundation, improve what worked, learn from what didn’t and create an even stronger Fringe for performers, venues and audiences.
At the same time, we’re going to test the water with some of our other festival ideas during 2027.
Our longer-term Fair City Events vision includes:
🎷 Perth Jazz & Blues Festival.
🤠 Perth Americana & Country Festival.
💋 Perth Drag & Burlesque Festival.
🎭 Perth Fringe.
😂 Perth Comedy Festival.
Rather than treating all five as committed full-scale festivals for 2027, we’ll use the year to research, develop and test these concepts.
That may mean smaller events, individual shows or concentrated programmes that allow us to understand the audience, work with performers and venues, explore the right commercial models and learn what each festival would actually need to succeed.
If the demand is there and the model works, we can build from it. If something needs more time, we’ll give it more time.
That matters because one model won’t necessarily work for every festival.
The structure that works so well for Perth Fringe may not be right for a dedicated music festival involving professional bands, different production requirements, larger venues and different performer fees.
We want to understand those differences properly before making commitments.
Our new Fair City Events CRM is now live, and performer applications are open, allowing performers to tell us what they do and which areas of the developing Fair City Events programme they would like to be considered for.

And our ambition remains bigger than simply putting shows on.
We want to create opportunities for performers, work with local venues, involve schools and young people, support creatives in Perth and encourage more people to experience live performance in the city.

We have an ambitious destination in mind, but we’re not going to rush the journey to get there.
For 2027, the priority is clear.
Build on Perth Fringe. Test the other concepts. Listen. Learn. Research. And only launch full festivals when we know we're ready to do them properly.
