A little update after the devastation I found the other night.

I've managed to put a temporary fix on the polytunnel using plenty of cable ties and some strong plastic tape.

It's not pretty, but it should hopefully keep things going for now and give the plants a fighting chance.

Still got a lot of repairs and tidying up to do, but I'm determined not to let a few mindless idiots beat me.

Thanks to everyone who's commented and sent messages of support. It really does mean a lot.

Hopefully I can start getting things back on track. 🌱💚

I've been a bit preoccupied lately and had a lot going on, so I haven't been spending much time down the plot over the last few weeks.

Anyway, I went down last night after not being there over the weekend and discovered this...

The polytunnel had been cut open and completely trashed inside. Plants had been ripped out of the soil, pots and seedlings thrown all over the floor, and two knives and some hand tools are missing.

To make matters worse, the shed door had been completely ripped off, breaking the main support beam and the catch beam, and my wheelbarrow has gone too.

There could be more missing that I've not noticed yet.

It's so disappointing to turn up and find it like this. Just mindless vandalism, pulling crops out for absolutely nothing.

Scumbags taking what isn't theirs and destroying things that someone has spent time and effort building.

Honestly, it's so disheartening. Anyone who grows their own food knows how much time, money and hard work goes into it. Right now, I just feel gutted.



The hashtag is especially fitting this time, unfortunately. 😞

After all that drama with the deformed pumpkin seedling… now I’ve got a deformed runner bean too 😂🌱

Out of 12 runner bean seeds I got 100% germination, so I can’t complain… but there’s always that one plant that wants to be different 🤣

Honestly the allotment feels like a plant hospital sometimes.

One minute I’m rescuing upside down pumpkins from stones, next minute I’m staring at a runner bean wondering what went wrong 😅

Anyone else get random mutant seedlings or is it just my plot? 👀

Do you leave the weird ones growing to see what happens… or pull them out and start again?

Remember that deformed pumpkin seedling? 🎃🤣

It first came up basically upside down with the roots sticking out the soil.

I covered the roots back over thinking that would sort it… then the next day it popped back up again doing exactly the same thing 😂

That’s when I decided to investigate properly and found a stone underneath the soil where it had been trying to grow around 🪨

So into a new pot it went, roots covered properly, and now look at it…

growing nicely with proper true leaves coming through 💪🌱

Funny how seedlings that struggle the most sometimes end up being the toughest ones 🙌

A slug completely ate the head off one of my pumpkin seedlings… I thought it was game over 🎃💀

But somehow this little survivor has pushed out a brand new leaf from the seed pod itself 😳

Never seen anything like it before!

Honestly, you’ve got to respect the determination 😂💪

Slug: “Job done.”

Plot twist…

The alien cucumbers have landed 👽🥒

The other week I planted some African Horned Cucumber seeds, also known as Kiwano melons, and now they’ve finally started sprouting! 🌱

Not gonna lie, I half expected nothing to happen… but these weird little things are officially on the move 😄

If all goes to plan, these will grow into some of the strangest looking fruit you’ll ever see.

Spiky on the outside, bright green inside, and looking like something straight out of a sci-fi film 🤣

What makes me happy? 🌞

A clear blue sky, blazing sunshine, the kids running about, my missis by my side supervising my wheelbarrow skills like I’m operating heavy machinery on a building site 🤣🛠️🥔

And me stood proudly at the allotment like a king with a wheelbarrow full of homemade compost for the spuds 🤣🥔

Honestly, some people chase luxury… I’m out here getting excited over well-rotted compost and potato plants 😂

There’s just something unbeatable about family time on the plot, getting jobs done, soaking up the heat, and watching everything grow. Simple things, happy days 💚

What’s everyone been up to over this heatwave bank holiday weekend then? ☀️😄

Beautiful clear blue skies here, so I was busy down the plot 💪🏽

🥔 Earthed up the potato bags

🍓 Weeded and added compost around 2 of the strawberry beds

Started adding edging to another strawberry bed

Basically… in and out of the sun all day and drinking enough water to fill the pond 🤣

Hope everyone’s enjoyed the sunshine without melting completely 😅

12 pumpkin seeds planted… 100% germination 🌱🎃

Now we’re down to: 🎃 10 future giants

🎃 1 that got its head eaten off

🎃 And 1 that’s come out the soil looking like it’s had a rough night out 🤣

One seedling is a bit deformed with the root sticking out the soil, but I’m giving it a chance.

Gardening always keeps you humble 😂

Still though… I’ll take 10 healthy pumpkins any day 🙌
