🚨‼️Portsmouth’s HMO Madness: Colonisation by the Back Door as Family Homes Are Carved Up…‼️🚨
Enough is enough, WHEN?! 🤯😡
In a city already buckling under the weight of one of the highest population densities outside London, Portsmouth City Council has just approved FOUR OUT OF FIVE new Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
This isn’t planning permission, it’s betrayal… It’s theft.
While developers rake in profits, OUR community is being hollowed out, family homes sliced into rabbit-hutches, the future of OUR families stolen before our eyes.
This week’s decisions lay bare the grim reality:
At 135 Kirby Road in Copnor, despite 61 furious objections over parking gridlock, sewage overload & the destruction of neighbourhood character, the committee approved a SEVEN-BEDROOM HMO. Long-term residents of 40 YEARS+ are selling up & fleeing the chaos. The vote for this one tied; the chair’s casting vote sealed it.
Similar green lights for schemes at 50 Belgravia Road (SIX bedrooms) & the expansion of 36 Montgomerie Road in Southsea. Only the over-the-top EIGHT-BEDROOM bid at 39 Winchcombe Road was refused…
Soon, under Labour’s October reforms, even this pathetic planning committee charade ends - minor applications like HMOs will be rubber-stamped by officers, stripping ELECTED members of any real say. Not that they do anything, anyway…
This isn’t a housing crisis. It’s colonisation. Portsmouth proudly brands itself a “city of sanctuary,” sucking in more immigrants & London relocations than the rest of Hampshire combined. Meanwhile, local lads like one grandmother’s grandson - born & raised nearby in Fareham - get turned away from HMO rooms for not ticking the right “local connection” box. Who exactly are all these extra beds for? Definitely NOT the people who’ve paid taxes here for decades… Who were actually born here… Or who have been here more than couple weeks, even?!
The hypocrisy is ridiculous too. We’re at war with farmers for their land & bulldozing through green fields to build new towns & estates across the country, yet STILL we must gut every decent family home into profit-maximising bedspaces?
It’s madness.
Infrastructure is collapsing: GPs & dentists can’t cope now, let alone with the influx. Parking is a nightmare, drains are overwhelmed, streets feel dirtier & more chaotic than ever.
Tipner’s new builds will only pile on more pressure.
This is theft - straight-up theft of our children’s future. Family homes that should house OUR growing local families, passing from one generation to the next, are being colonised & chopped into transient rentals.
Developers laugh all the way to the bank while young Portsmouth people are priced out or sidelined. Our birthright is being sold off. Our homeland taken from under our feet.
It feels treasonous, because it is. National & local policies flood the area with demand, then “solve” it by intensifying the misery on existing residents instead of controlling the numbers or building properly. The result? Once-stable areas transformed, women & children NOT safe, communities fractured, a city that no longer feels like home to the people who built it.
Portsmouth deserves councillors with spines, not apologists. We need planning rules that protect family housing stock, not facilitate its destruction.
Immigration-driven demand MUST be confronted & REVERSED, not papered over with more HMOs.
If this continues, the soul of our city - its liveable neighbourhoods, its heritage as a place for working families - will be gone FOREVER.
Wake up, Portsmouth.
This isn’t progress.
We are paying to replace ourselves… It is TWISTED, it is UNHEARD of, it is UNNATURAL - & it is EVIL.
