Mick Magic's Radioshow To The Stars Presenting an aural experience for those who like their music from the fringes and wish they lived on a spaceship... Oh, and he helped with the washing.

Transdimensional Bleed;
Friday 21st September 2018: It was foretold. It was the day TMR Records released that Magic Moments At Twilight Time analogue remaster on CD, “Creavolution Reborn” (TMR CD8170). As part of the online launch promotions on Facebook events, I’d done a presentation called “Flashbax Omicron 13”, a potted history of the 13 MMATT albums, including a track from or related to each, all of which combined to form a free download album to celebrate the reappearance of our ominous and cursed 13th, originally released 22 years earlier, amidst much chaos and dismay. It was during that presentation that two of my counterparts from another alternate universe interjected, as is their habit when a new release beckons. They had seen the future, they had visited me on the occasion of my 70th birthday, and they had learned of Skit Zoyd, another counterpart that would come. In his reality, that version of me had found fame with Ehrlich Bullet, who became heroes of the anti-music movement with their “Music Is Dead... Let It Rot!” EP. They showed me the photo, the one they described as a ‘transdimensional bleed’, and there he was; a ‘ghost’ with a mohican, anarchy t-shirt and a padlock around his neck. And they told me we would combine as ‘Magic Bullet’ to make an album called “Gravitas”, music (and elsewhere) inspired by Sati Varg’s book, “The Second World Chronicles”. So I waited, they had never been wrong before, such are the advantages of time travel. And this year, he came, and we did indeed start recording together, and the adventure continues. The rest, as they say, will be history...

Don is another of those giants of the cassette underground (home taper scene as many of our American friends of the era refer to it) upon whose shoulders I built Music & Elsewhere, so it made the offer of a slot in the KOWS Radio Summit mean one helluva lot. Nice to have a 7pm Saturday night slot in California too, shame it works out at 3 o'clock on a Sunday morning in the UK, way past my bedtime, blessed be the Podomatic! Don himself, veteran of Lonely Whistle Music and KFR USA, is still busily at it, presenting the No Pigeonholes radioshow, making new music, helping run the operations at KOWS, and in his spare time... 😉

Wow, gone a whole week without getting a 'temporary restriction' on the great unaccountable Facelessbook. So, my latest attempt to get them off my back was just sharing a post from a FB event to a maximum of 7 FB groups per day (two less than you're offered on a standard post on here), it contains 5 links, all internal FB ones. Small post numbers and100% FB and they are STILL not happy! And no response from them to dozens of fault reports and 'feedback' (the latter option which they blocked a few weeks back). After more than two decades on this platform, I am starting to feel distinctly unwelcome...

And finally, to Neil Crud and his band of merry punksters, closing the show with a three minute finger to the world of social media. As with everyone else on this edition of the show, he's one of the old guard, not to mention frontman with the best selling band on Music & Elsewhere, Sons Of Selina. Their excellent brand of spacepunk enjoyed a reasonable amount of success back in the day; couple of albums on Richard Allen's Delerium label, live Radio One session for Mark Radcliffe, star of "Officer Kitty And The God Of Love". Nowadays presenting the Punk & Beyond show for Louder Than War Radio, releasing and writing about much cool music via Link 2 Wales, but still not able to cope with half a bottle of ouzo. Hey, kids, ask your dad what Spam Javelin means! 😈

The great French electro-experimental maestro himself. I remember in my earliest days involved in the global underground, 35 years back, you'd see his works everywhere, barely a serious label didn't include something by this prolific musician. There was his Fraction Studio distro too, but it was primarily his sonic output he was best known for. IS known for, he's still with us, and still producing material worthy of ears. Always been a bit camera shy, but is quite up for cartoon avatars, so here ya go! 👾

Another of our oldest friends and colleagues (well, they all are on this particular edition of the show), pStan Batcow (with a silent 'p', don't ask, you'll just encourage him) and his Howl in the Typewriter. Stan is also the man behind the Pumf Records label and that long running series that is the Godspunk compilation CD's. Interesting albums, horrible covers with pictures of scary clowns (is there any other sort?) on. The Magic Bullet have been on a couple, but don't let that put you off. Oh, the photo; well, he is effectively a neighbour these days, no longer 260 miles up the M6, Blackpool is a brief bus ride (free for me, sigh...) from Knott End-On-Sea, so we have he and his family over every so often. This was the last time (not ever, hasta la vista, baby, he'll be back), a few weeks ago, Jaxx, meself and himself, up against the wall (shut up). He's one of the good guys, what the hell, go on, encourage him... 🤡

The man behind Electronic Cottage and one of the founding fathers of the American home taper scene. Someone we admired so much for their part in the history of underground music that we named one of the characters in the show as a tribute to him; the much loved 'AI Hal'! Unfortunately, he wasn't best pleased about it. Seemed I had underestimated his pathological hatred of AI, hence why our super computer got renamed Hal-90. One can only hope he was happier with that. Musically, he has an absolute wealth of very interesting recordings going back forever, not least the little glimpses into his everyday life made musique concrète in the form of microcassette and dictaphone assemblages. Ladies, gentlemen, non-binaries and mechanoids, I give you another of the giants upon whose shoulders I built Music & Elsewhere... 📀

Sadly, we lost Chris Phinney not long ago, his contribution to underground music over the decades was massive. He and I first made contact circa 1991, the year before Music & Elsewhere began, and his Harsh Reality tape label was a huge inspiration in that whole process, remaining the biggest and best. Over the years, we had the honour of having both his Viktimized Karcass and Cancerous Growth projects on our label, as well as some of his collabs with Messrs. McGee, Moneymaker and Henson. He was amongst the first to release MMATT in the USA too. I remember the lengthy audio letters he used to send me in those early days too, leaning on the word 'boy' in that cinematic southern drawl. He's missed. I like to think of him up there jamming with Kevyn Dymond and Lord Litter, God help the angels! 😉 Needless to say, his inclusion on my opening show was always going to be a 101% certainty. One of those mythical giants on whose shoulders I built M&E, a loaded man indeed...
