Scarface (2007-2021): The legendary lion killed 400 hyenas, 130 rivals, battled hippos, drove out crocs, and died alone—a true king
Born in 2007, Scarface was more than just a lion, he was a living legend of Kenya’s Maasai Mara. He earned his name after a fierce battle in 2012 left him with the unmistakable scar above his right eye, a mark that became a symbol of resilience.
For nearly a decade, Scarface ruled alongside his brothers, defending vast territory and inspiring awe in everyone who saw him. His life was filled with battles and victories, though the dramatic claims, hundreds of hyenas, countless rival lions, are more myth than record. What is certain: he was powerful, cunning, and lived to the impressive age of 14 in the wild.
In 2021, Scarface passed away peacefully, alone, under the African sun. His reign ended, but his legacy as the most photographed and celebrated lion of the Mara roars on.
