Last Sunday, I attended a church service here in the UK and noticed something quite thoughtful — there were Bibles available at the entrance for anyone who didn’t come with one. Different versions, neatly arranged, free to use and return after service.
It struck me as a simple yet powerful gesture of inclusion.
In many African churches, the expectation is often that everyone should come with their own Bible, and those who don’t may even feel judged. But maybe this model — having Bibles available for all — is something more churches could consider adopting.
It’s not about comparison, but about creating a more welcoming space for everyone, regardless of circumstance.
Maybe instead of encouraging use of Bible mobile apps or calling out members for forgetting their Bibles, offering physical copies at the door could make worship even more engaging and accessible.
Just a thought. 💭
