Carl Burkitt likes telling tales. He tells long tales, short tales, silly tales, sad tales. He likes to tell them online, behind a mic, in books, in schools, & on the sofa with his young family. His debut , WHAT DOES A BABY THINK IT IS? was by Enthusiastic Press in 2020, followed by the BIG BAD MIKE from Dreich in 2021, and the children’s book ELEPHANTS SLEEP IN BUNK BEDS from Beir Bua Press in 2022. Born in Swindon, now living in Manchester, Carl has only ever had six in his life… for now.

Carl has been a regular contributor to ABP since 2021. His work is featured in many of our , including THE WORST BEST YEARS & NIGHT TERRORS 📚

I first met Adam when I was 13 years old and always knew I wanted to be friends with him so much that I gave him a huge hug the moment we met 😅 (he still stuck around even though I am a complete weirdo)

I was so lucky to have him as a friend for nearly 14 years. He was kind, caring, intelligent and had the most amazing sense of humour. The laughter we used to share together is something I miss terribly.

The Phasers formed in 2011 and Adam was originally on backing vocals/keys. In early 2012, he became the drummer and it was always such a joy to see him so happy at every gig he played. He left The Phasers in 2014 to pursue other music projects and then went on to university.

Unfortunately in 2022 things took a turn for the worst and he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and he passed away in March 2024. Everyone who knew him misses him so much and it’s clear he had a huge impact on everyone he met.

It’s a huge privilege to be hosting ‘A Night Honouring Adam Hoyle’ to celebrate his passion for music, to raise money for a fantastic cause and of course to see The Phasers play one last time! 06/09/25
