Theda Bara — The Original Femme Fatale of Hollywood.

In the 1910s and 1920s, silent film audiences were captivated by her exotic allure, dark eyes, and powerful presence. One of cinema’s earliest s*x symbols, Bara was nicknamed “The Vamp” for her roles as seductive, often dangerous women — a character archetype that would go on to influence decades of storytelling.

Despite her fame, most of her films were lost in a tragic studio fire, turning her into both a legend and a mystery in film history.

📽️ A forgotten icon from a time when movies spoke without words.

Japan's Fukushima Nuclear Plant is being evacuated.

Triggered by the 6th largest earthquake ever recorded — a massive magnitude 8.8 — a powerful tsunami is now heading toward the coast.

The same region devastated in 2011 is once again facing a terrifying natural force. Evacuations are underway as safety measures are being enacted around the nuclear facility.

A stark reminder of nature’s raw power — and the resilience Japan has shown before.

Saturn’s North Pole has a storm shaped like a perfect hexagon.

Discovered by Voyager in the early 1980s and confirmed by Cassini decades later, this six-sided jet stream spans over 14,000 km across — larger than Earth itself.

Scientists still don’t fully understand why it takes this shape. It’s symmetrical. It’s persistent. And it’s completely alien.

Nature, once again, builds what humans struggle to comprehend.

Meet Vulcana — the Welsh strongwoman who shattered gender norms in the 1890s. 💪

Miriam Kate Williams, aka Vulcana, was a world-famous strongwoman from Wales, known for her astonishing feats of strength and her defiance of Victorian-era expectations for women.

She was the first person on record to perform the “Tomb of Hercules” — acting as a living fulcrum while a horse and its rider stood balanced across her shoulders. A jaw-dropping display of strength rarely seen even today.

Born in 1874 and active into the early 1900s, Vulcana performed across Europe alongside her partner Atlas, often lifting men above her head and bending iron bars with her bare hands.

Her legacy? Empowering women and rewriting the rules — not just in the circus ring, but in society.

"Vaught’s Practical Character Reader" is a book published in 1902 by L.A. Vaught, promoting the pseudoscience of phrenology—the practice of determining personality traits and intelligence based on the shape and measurements of the skull and facial features.

While completely debunked today, the book serves as a curious (and often disturbing) look into the biases and scientific misunderstandings of the early 20th century. It included illustrated “examples” of what the author claimed were the physical traits of various types of people—traits supposedly indicating intelligence, morality, criminal tendencies, etc.
