All the recent interest in the display of the St George flag reminded me of this image, which goes back to 2008. I was mooching round the awesome Park Hill flats in Sheffield before the developers got their hands on it and this front door caught my eye. The "Blades" name refers to one of the local football teams rather than anything more sinister. I wonder if the tenancy rules allowed for this sot of alteration?!

Nice to find one of my photographs used on the recent special edition of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway album, especially alongside some of the professionals of the time. Certainly one of the most amazing rock concerts I ever attended, with my trusty SLR in tow, albeit unofficially! The shot is of Phil Collins bottom right on this spread.

I have been archiving some old CDRs lately, trying to work through these before it becomes impossible to access the data! The chance that any of this artwork will be needed again is remote but it does allow me to rabbit on a bit about the jobs and how they were tackled on the easy on the eye website. Here is a box set I did for Connoisseur Records back in 2001, or rather this is the alternate version I did for the Japanese release. You can see more images on the website:

The latest page header is from a vintage tea towel, produced for the Butlins organisation in the 1960s. Screenprinted on pure Irish linen it has been retired from dishwashing duties since it came our way and I finally got it framed and on the wall last year. The colours are just so redolent of the seaside imagery we are all familiar with.

I really like these old street photographs. They were taken on vintage (even then) movie cameras in the 1920s and '30s and sold to you as a souvenir postcard strip of three frames. The hazy, dreamy image is a result of a small lens and other technical deficiencies, but for me this somehow more accurately reflects people's memories of events as time slips by. And all trace of this couple's stroll down a busy Great Yarmouth street with their new-born would have vanished were it not for the busy street photographer. This image comes from the collection of Paul Godfrey, and it's just my way of remembering him, as well as our many shared photo finds.

Say hello to Miss Broadstairs, filling in between engagements by working as a beach photographer back in the Sixties! Miss Broadstairs is seen handling one of the big reflex cameras used by the trade and she will feature in an upcoming Easy On The Eye book devoted to this largely forgotten trade called Go Home On A Postcard. And she was in good company, we found out last week that comedian Peter Cook also spent time taking portraits on the beach at Torquay where his grandparents lived before he went up to University. Find out more about the book here - it will be published as soon as schedules allow :

We've not had much time to post updates lately, as our latest book The American Rhythm & Blues Photographs of Brian Smith arrived a few weeks back and so we have been extra busy sending out the pre-orders and then keeping up with new customers, as well as getting stock out to our distributors. Reaction has been very positive and we will round up some of the comments anon. Here's a nice shot from the cover of Blues & Rhythm magazine who used one of Brian's shots across the front and a very generous review.
