A photo dug out from back in the day after the bus had a fresh coat of paint! What paint you ask? We actually used 'Military Vehicle Paint' which was specially designed for use on vehicles. Given the size of the bus, it would be way to expensive to have it professionally spray painted. Admittedly the paint was applied without any sanding or undercoat hence why it hasn't remained as shiny over the years.

Our current plan is to slowly work along the outside of the bodywork filling holes and sanding down blotches that have formed on the bodywork over time and eventually give the bus a whole new coat of paint.

Today's first day back at the bus saw it getting its first jetwash in years both underneath and outside. Other jobs included removing the old petrol tank used for the onboard generator which will now be reconditioned ready to be fitted as a diesel tank for the soon to be installed diesel heater. Underneath the back of the bus, the two jacks used to stabilise the bus in situ were dropped down and greased up to bring them back into service. These jacks prevent the air suspension from dropping whilst I am working underneath it! The last task was to try and repair the sliding door controls but sadly the plastic had perished too much with age and they need replacing at a cost of £63 each! But onwards and upwards 🚌

Tomorrow brings the first work day on the bus in a while. We have plenty of things happening in the next few months:

💦 Jet wash from top to bottom and underneath to wash off years of accumulated dirt and moss

🔥 Fitment of a diesel heater to allow use in the colder months

⛽️ Removal of the old generator petrol tank to be reconditioned and repurposed as a diesel tank for the diesel heater

🔨 Construction of the dividing wall between the recording studio and control room

🌬 Replacement of Air Door controls to fix random side door opening and eliminate air leaks from both panels

So a lot of thought is going into the bus at the moment into how we can make it as multi-purpose as possible for the benefit of young musicians and two ideas have stuck out to us.

Proposal 1 is to put in two opening doors which would open the bus up for performances and would involve a fair amount of metal fabrication. Similar to how it was previously used, the doors would open outwards rather than having a platform lowered each time.

Proposal 2 which seems more beneficial is to fix a retractable awning to the existing mountings and create two windows for screens allowing for a small stage to be set up outside the bus giving young people the chance to perform outside whilst others vision mix/live stream from inside via 4G/5G.

Whilst events season is still in full swing, the work on the bus remains very limited due to lack of spare time.. However, plans are still forming and the other week, the diesel heater arrived ready for fitting for the cooler and quieter months ahead where progress will really start happening! Stay tuned.. 🚌🚌🚌

Did you know.. today 13 years ago today, Original Allstars Music took delivery of the bus! Here's a look back at the bus before it was converted into a mobile stage. It actually use to be a mobile internet centre on wheels!

A year later, the bus was out on the road as a mobile stage sporting its first event at the Beach Dreams Festival. Shortly after the bus has completely died and would not start or anything for 4 months. After spending £3k to get DAF to come out and look at it, they managed to get it back up and running. Since then it was back on the road as a mobile stage until Covid came along and it ended up in storage off the road.

This is where our next phase comes in now to get it back on the road after being in storage for 4+ years. Its going to take some funding and man hours but the day will come where we put up the post saying we are back on the road! Its first event was the Beach Dreams Festival. Lets get it back there! 🚌🎶

Back in March we had to remove the batteries from the bus as they had reached their duty cycle a number of years over what was spec'd which isn't bad going! Since then the bus hasn't been fired up for a number of months. However, we have new batteries on the way and our next video update will include firing up the bus for the first time in a few months. Will it start? or will it move? Find out soon! 🔋➡🚌

It may have been a while since we have posted an update, but work has been happening, and just look at the improvement! Here is your May 2025 update on the bus!

May 2025 Update - The mobile studio lorry gets a new cab trim! Flooring is down and felt it fitted, the cab is starting to take shape again.
