A quick trip to the bus today to turn it over, give it a brief spin and drop off a few bits when work commences in the new year!

We now have a sink which will be fitted in the kitchenette area ready for handwashing and general cleaning use and also have a couple of KEF Cresta speakers which will be fixed into place in the studio area to be used for music recording.

One unexpected problem that was discovered though was a ruddy great air leak above the sliding door where 25 years of expanding and retracting by air has lead to a crack in the door air filter housing. As this is connected to the main bus air tanks, this can potentially cause issues with the braking system should the leak get any worse. Thankfully a replacement part will only cost about Β£40 rather than the hundreds. πŸ˜…

πŸ›  LOTS DONE IN ONE DAY πŸ›

Today has been a productive day to say the least with plenty of odds and sods done and some bits which have made a good visual improvement in the bus.

πŸ’§A small float switch has been installed into the fresh water tank and a small red LED on the side of the water filling hole outside. The purpose of this is to indicate when the water tank is full from the outside rather than running in and out constantly checking the tank itself. The tank was also properly fitted into place with the accumulator tank also fitted ready to accept a sink and tap.

⚑The 12v and 24v electric cabling was tidied up in the cupboard today now most appliances have been wired in at the front. The 12v though requires a splice to go to the rear of the bus in order to power additional electrics such as LED tape and exterior lighting further on down the line.

πŸ”¨The framework for the desk was completed this afternoon and now just needs sheets of wood fitted to the top to form the desk which will be house to the mixing/recording equipment and the live streaming equipment too.

✨Lastly, cabling was hidden above the bench seat and boxed in with felt applied over the wood with a small bit still left to do once some more wood has been obtained.

Overall, a productive day!

🚽 THE COOLEST TOILET ON THE ROAD 🚽

Today was spent kitting out the toilet with sparkle-board and a PVC ceiling. To pay homage to the current colour of the bus (which will eventually be changed), the walls of the toilet were fitted with Purple sparkle-board. All was fitted to nice flat walls with grab adhesive and then finished off with caulking on the edges and gaps. The PVC boards ensure that the room is hygiene friendly and allows for an easy clean up. The extractor fan has been rewired and is pending a fused spur to be fitted although No.2's will be specifically banned from this toilet! πŸ’©

After the toilet was completed, it was onto fitting the PVC panels onto the wall in the kitchenette area. Again fitted onto flat walls with grab adhesive and edges filled in with caulk for a nice finish. Soon to be fitted on the kitchenette counter will be a small sink which will allow for hand washing. Eventually too some trunking to hide all those cables powering various 12v electrics and speakers.

Lastly, the 24v charger circuit was fitted under the cupboard. This was a rather complex setup as the charger likes to come live when it detects a voltage from the main batteries which would eventually drain them. Therefore, the charger has to be linked into a relay to only turn it on when the bus is hooked up to mains. This will ensure the vehicle batteries are always kept topped up including when power is drawn to run the water pump.

Not much in the way of visual progress today but plenty of practical progress. First job was to take the bus round the compound a few times to keep the wheels turning and slosh the oils around the engine and gearbox.

The old countertop was removed from the cab area and replaced with a wooden kitchen countertop which was saved from going in the skip at a recent installation job. Eventually this will have a sink fitted on the left hand side to allow for hand washing. Secondly, the trim was refitted in the cab area and given a wipe down clearing up some room in the rear where it had been stored.

Lastly, a connection was made to the bus batteries which run on a 24v system. This will provide power to the onboard water pump when the sink is fitted and also give provision to fit the 24v charger which will keep the vehicle batteries topped up whilst on mains power.

Looking back as some old photos, here is the generator that was built into the bus which provided power to the computers and various hardware whilst it was a mobile internet cafΓ©. The generator was bought back to life to serve the bus whilst it was a mobile stage. However, after a number of years subject to the elements, the exhaust had fallen off resulting in one of the noisiest generators you have ever heard!

This was the first thing to be sold from the bus to raise funds for the interior overhaul. After a bit of tinkering and years sitting idle, the generator fired up once more and is now in the hands of someone who will bring it back to life. The generator bay now houses the bus's diesel heater and will soon house the leisure batteries which will provide onboard lighting, background music and heating without the need to be on shore power. πŸ’‘πŸ”₯πŸ”ŠπŸ”Œ

This week on the bus, it was out with the spray adhesive and on with the wall felt and what a lot that got done too! Starting from the cab area, the toilet outer wall and ceiling were covered. The panel above the drivers door was also covered. Moving further back, one side of the dividing wall was felted and even further back, the square missing on the wall from where the once winch plate was is now covered.

After running out of spray glue again (4 cans worth so far), work shifted onto fitting the toilet. Some lino flooring was glued down into the toilet. Some framework was then made to ensure the toilet sat perfectly in line with the waste door. Once that was aligned, it was fitted in place. The next job is to order in some PVC board to line the walls and ceiling with along with repairing the extractor fan.

Back to the felting, now the felt has been applied to the dividing wall, the framework for the studio desk has now started which will house the mixing equipment, screens, amplifiers and other various equipment needed for song recording and live streaming.

With the weather now starting to get cold, this is a great time to run our new diesel heater in making working on the bus a bit more manageable than before πŸ”₯😌

🚽 WE HAVE A TOILET!!! 🚽

That's right! After an opportunistic browse on ebay one evening, this toilet was found listed for the bargain price of Β£10.78 and was only up in Crawley. After giving it a thorough clean out and fixing the pump electrics, I am pleased to say we have managed to save Β£250 - Β£300 down the line by not having to invest in a new one.

Of course the toilet is not fitted properly yet but this brings us one big step closer to completing the interior. Before the toilet is fitted properly, the floor needs Vinyl flooring laying and some parts raising to level the toilet with the waste hatch. Then secondly, the walls and ceiling all need lining with PVC board. Not to forget, the extractor fan also needs to be brought back to life!

🌟 INTERIOR PROGRESS 🌟

Today was one of those days where it really felt the interior was taking shape. After purchasing some wall felt and a couple of cans of spray glue, it was straight to work to start fitting it to walls and the ceiling. Although not properly finished off yet, it makes the interior look so much better! Adding to that, a piece of trunking was fitted between the toilet and the wall to enclose all cables hanging between the cab and the studio area.

After that, it was onto removing the dado trunking from the wall in the recording area to give us a flat wall. The gap between the felt will be filled in with scraps of the new felt.

Lastly, it was onto filling in the gaps on the floor where previous fixings had been removed and other bits like the bench moving closer to the cab. The cut out pieces of heavy duty flooring were glued down onto the wooden floor with wooden battens screwed down to ensure it gets the best possible chance of sticking.

πŸ›  WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MESS?! πŸ”¨

As the old saying goes, you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette. The day started off with a bad start when I forgot to bring my laptop along (used for music and up to date with emails) and also my EcoFlow. This meant I was unable to use most the tools for cutting wood and hoovering up. Thankfully I have a small 700w generator on the bus which just about powered the handheld circular cutter meaning I could get things done!

After a quick trip to reception to grab some refreshments, they advised me there was a guest WiFi network there which I was able to connect on to and download my Spotify playlist so I at least had some background music. Annoyingly there was a fault with the SMARTY network meaning there was no mobile data in Steyning. Anyway...

The door frame between the two rooms has now been fitted pending boarding, the metal plate that use to house the winch for the stage door was removed from the inside after grinding off heavily rusted bolts from the outside. All holes were then filled in with metal filler pending sanding. Old wood has been cut and reused to box in the heating pipes and electrical cabling above the ceiling which will eventually all be carpeted over and lastly.. I had a spare small speaker so decided to fit this in the toilet. Why not!

Pictures that didn't get taken were of the diesel heater fuel tank which had new fixings put on today to ensure it stays in place and doesn't fall off its frame in transit, and a new item is now on the bus after a bargain find which has saved Β£250! More on that soon..

There is plenty happening on the bus and another video update coming mid-month on our YouTube channel. As ever, if anyone can spare Β£5, Β£10, Β£20 or however much towards our project, it would be much appreciated! All funds go towards materials which get the bus one step further each time to being a functional unit. 🚌🎢🎹πŸ₯
