He was the eldest son of William the Conqueror. He had the bloodline, the title, and the claim. But Robert Curthose never wore the English crown.

Born in the early 1050s, Robert was set to inherit Normandy and, possibly, the throne of England. But his relationship with his father was strained. After a bitter rebellion, he even wounded William in battle. Things only got worse after his mother died.

When William passed in 1087, Robert got Normandy. His younger brother William Rufus got England. Their youngest brother, Henry, got money. The rivalry between the brothers never let up. When Robert left for the First Crusade, he mortgaged Normandy to fund his journey.

By the time he returned in 1100, William Rufus was dead. But Robert was too late. Henry had claimed the crown. Robert tried to fight back, but it ended with his defeat at Tinchebray. He spent the last 28 years of his life in prison.

He died in Cardiff Castle in 1134, just one year before England collapsed into civil war. His story is one of power lost, promises broken, and a crown that never came.

William Adel in including his half-siblings Matilda FitzRoy and Richard of Lincoln, Richard d'Avranches, Earl of Chester, and many other Anglo-Norman nobles and courtiers.

Because a mutiny on board and hit a rock. Lead to anarchy a civil war started.
