Keystone Brewing Group, which also counts Fourpure and Hofmeister among its portfolio, is lining up FRP Advisory as administrator as it races to secure a restructuring or sale.

Enjoyed a fine, refreshing Light Mild ale yesterday. Timothy Taylor's Brewery Golden Best(3.4%) is a thirst-quenching delight. A most flavoursome beer, that belies its low ABV.
Golden coloured presentation with a tight, white, creamy head.
Biscuit malt, fruity and soft, tangy aroma. Caramel/biscuit malt, subtle hop bitterness and a hint of red apple, in the well balanced flavours.
More biscuit malt, soft bitterness and a hint of warmth in the drying,
quite smooth finish.๐Ÿ˜‹
A very moreish, lip-smacking cask ale, in exceptional condition at the first-class drinking, social and dining destination, Four Alls inn Higham . ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

There have been quite a few cases of late where major breweries have cynically and unfairly reduced their ABV to 3.4%. Taking advantage of a recent new system that taxed lower-strength beers at a lower rate.

Of course, at the same time these behemoth brewers trouser a mega mountain of cash!

It understandably led to furious reactions from beer drinkers, claiming it had understandably reduced the quality of the taste. And surprise, surprise, the price remained the same!๐Ÿคฌ

Below is a list of these rapacious, unscrupulous offenders who gleefully took advantage of the reduced rate. Therefore short-changing their customers.

Fosters(Heineken)3.7% to 3.4% due in February 2026.
Sol(Heineken)reduced to 3.4% in January 2025 - and at the same time they increased the prices for draught beers!
John Smiths Extra Smooth(Heineken) reduced to 3.4% in 2024.
Grolsch(Asahi) reduced to 3.4% in October 2024.
Coors Light reduced from 4% to 3.4%! in April 2025. ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Carlsberg Danish Pilsner reduced from 3.8% to 3.4% in August 2023.
Greene King IPA lowered from 3.6% to 3.4% in September 2023.
Dark Star Hophead(Asahi)was reduced from 3.8 to 3.4% in August 2024.
Other reductions included Kronenbourg 1664 from 5% to 4.6%. And Shepherd Neame Spitfire Amber Ale(Bitter!) from 4.5% to 4.2% in 2023.

Naughty capitalists, eh? Cheersโ€ฆ๐Ÿป

As I suspected, an appalling and unhelpful Budget statement for the hospitality industry !

It just continues the usual trend of total disdain by this and previous governments, for the pub and brewing industry.

Here below is the reaction to this damaging statement by CAMRA National Chairman, Ashley Corbett-Collins.

Everyone will be hoping that there will be some comfort in todayโ€™s Budget(12.30pm), for our valued pubs, bars, social clubs and restaurants.

A favourable change in VAT, business rates, national insurance and beer duty are desperately required, in order to boost the fiscal needs of the hospitality industry. Thus enabling it to recover from its present predicament. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I think Iโ€™ll give the Spoons โ€˜Christmas Dinnerโ€™ a swerve! Where are the sprouts and roast potatoes? ๐Ÿ™ˆ Not much turkey, too! Is it turkey or pork? ๐Ÿค”Mind you, thatโ€™s a cracking ball of stuffings! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Itโ€™s the time of year when cask ale drinkers will have been moving towards the darker beers on the bar. What has been your favourite during this transitional period?
My highlight so far was undoubtedly, a generous half measure of Craven Brew Co VIP(6.5%)enjoyed at Padiham Beer Festival last month. A stunning deep-flavoured, rich, complex and inherently boozy Porter style ale.
It replicated the iconic multi award-winning cask ale, Elland 1872 Porter, that was CAMRAโ€™s Champion Beer of Britain in 2013 and 2023. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

Many of you who follow my page have commented and liked the post, in relation to the ยฃ5 breakdown of a pint of beer.
It resulted in a plethora of informative, enlightening and educative responses from knowledgeable folk in the pub industry - and first-class beer aficionados, who certainly educated myself, and I suspect many others, on this beery topic.
Itโ€™s certainly pleasing that interest in the subject on my page, has currently reached almost 170k views and over 12k engagements.

Cheers to all my followers and potential followers for your continuing support on the page. Respectโ€ฆ

When will the Punch Bowl Inn, located in the village of Hurst Green, Lancashire, be rebuilt to its original state?

The Grade II listed Ribble Valley pub was illegally demolished in June 2021: the demolition was deemed a criminal offence.

The owners were then given a deadline of June 2024 by the High Court to rebuild the pub, but they had not even started the rebuild by this date. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

It was then another fourteen months(August 2025)before the council returned to the High Court, to seek further action, due to the ownersโ€™ INACTION, on the rebuilding of the original historic eighteenth century structure. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

It has now taken three months, so far, for the High Court to make a decision on further legal action.

Almost four and a half years since the pub was outrageously razed to the ground. When on earth will the first stone brick be laid, to commence the restructure? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฌ

Spoons have christened it Castell de Santa Bร rbera. It will open its doors at the end of January. It will be located in the airside area of departures.
