Rewind a few years.. ⏮️⏮️

The LF724 paint remover making light work of so much woodwork.
With different depths, you can go gradual and steady, or plenty of laters at a time. I often opted for the latter, get it off and get it all sanded back smooth after.
Such a great bit of kit, I just wish I had one sooner for previous projects.
Just make sure you have adequate extraction and PPE on old paintwork like this. This was used in a controlled environment

It’s the little details that get noticed, and this is a perfect example of that. These stunning light roses in this sitting room and snug look absolutely beautiful at night especially 🤩🤩 This work is on behalf of the incredibly talented , and I can’t wait to show you more of the finished rooms 😍

It’s the sound of the SLAP that got me 😭😭😭

This summer I road tested this Emperor masonry paint system 🐧. The client was wanting something breathable and low maintenance. So after some research, I looked into this. I had heard good things about it on various forums and social media, so thought I just had to try it.
For bare surfaces, it is a two product system. The primer penetrates and stabilises substrates, binding chalky or weathered surfaces without sealing them in, and creating a sound, breathable base.

The masonry paint is breathable and flexible, but also hydrophobic. Rain beads on the surface, helping dirt wash away naturally over time. Less moisture absorption, less staining, and façades that stay cleaner for longer.
I will definitely be using more of this on my exteriors when I get started again next spring/summer, I was genuinely blown away by how nice it was to use. 💪🏼

Have you tried it? And if not, do you have the perfect use for it? I would love to hear what project you would use it on 🙌🏻

With the first day of this job being exactly ONE YEAR AGO to the day 🤯, I thought I would re post this reel I made, which took me fair amount of time to make, just like the job itself 😝. I have gained a few followers since, who may have missed it, so here it is again!

43 days!….Sounds crazy for one room, right? But with blistering paint, ni****ne stains, rot, woodworm, hidden shutters, and broken panels, the work was immense. One wall of panelling had to be completely rebuilt, amongst other repairs. Huge thanks to for nailing it. (you better believe that pun was intended)

During day one of the process, after digging around the bay window, I uncovered long-sealed shutters, still perfectly usable but in need of future restoration. Thats another job for another time. The marquetry above the fireplace, once hidden under years of grime, revealed the stunning craftsmanship of years gone by.

Fitting all this into one reel was tough—there’s so much more to share. If you followed along, you’ll know how much getting this project over the line meant to me. Thanks for the support!

Don’t underestimate the silicone spatula. It’s not just a baking tool! Its flexibility and controlled edge make it one of the most effective tools for filling surfaces, particularly when working with internal and external curves. Unlike rigid blades, a silicone spatula adapts to the shape of the profile, allowing filler to be worked smoothly into contours, corners, and detailed areas. This results in a more consistent application, cleaner lines, and a refined finish that requires minimal sanding. When precision and surface quality matter, especially on curved details, the silicone spatula proves to be an invaluable part of my process.
What are your thoughts? Once you have come back from the kitchen drawer, let me know 😏

Using different skills to the best of your advantage is key in this day and age. Wih this method, I get all the speed and even coverage of spraying, with the final traditional finish of a subtle brushstroke.
Having both at your disposal mean results in less half the time. Some people on my posts can’t seem to fathom why I would spray and then still brush it. But just to be clear, brushstrokes on period homes are very much ok in my book. As amazing as a sprayed finish looks, this can look manufactured in a home where hand finishing would have always been the norm.
This is oil based Little Greene eggshell, and it’ll dry to a very soft subtle sheen.

Have you tried this method before? Or would you look to do it now you have seen it?
Let me know!

There is no right and wrong answer, as it is all personal preference and taste…
But what finish do you prefer on a front entrance door? Do you prefer a flatter finish, a mid sheen or a high gloss?

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER!

With this ceiling so tall, it was time for the old classic ‘brush on a pole’ to spot prime the filler on the cornice. It saved me a load of time up and down the ladder. I can then hit everything with the sprayer. Certain fillers don’t like to be sprayed, and it doesn’t fully absorb into it, so a quick brush over on those areas first will allow for easy spraying.

As ever… Stay tuned 🫡

Skim filling isn’t always about getting a perfectly flat surface. In this situation, I want to do away with the poor paintwork and filling of old, without losing the larger lumps and bumps. This skim filler will ensure a nice smooth finish, filling the smaller blemishes, whilst still leaving the larger high spots. Using a silicone blade like this will help with conforming around the larger bumps, so once painted, there is still character within these Georgian walls.

Here I used Prestonette multi light filler, and finishing with a 18” silicone trowel.
I can’t wait to get the first coat of paint on this, there has been so much prep to get it to this stage, along with the rest of the room. Keep an eye out!

This is just a small part of of what is a large room I am completing for Nick Auston on his Kent townhouse project. The walls need a lot of sanding, before I can fill and paint, with some walls also needing lining paper and also wallpaper. There is still a long long way to go, with work needed to everything you see here aswell as the snug room next to it.

Keep your eyes peeled for the final results, this one is going to be an absolute worldie 😍

Sander used: Giraffe long reach sander, and M-class extractor.

Haters would say it’s photoshopped 💅🏼
