Sometimes you just need to press pause. A weekend away in Barrington, one of South Somerset’s prettiest villages.

Long walks through the orchards, woodlands and the gardens at , followed by slow mornings and long soaks in ’s beautiful rooms — with a little help from and their heavenly bubble bath, made just down the road.

Evenings were all about feasting A menu full of local, seasonal dishes from Victoria and Al that felt like a true celebration of Somerset and the South West itself. A gentle reminder that sometimes the best adventures are the quiet ones.

This is just one of the guardian of orchards at Somerset Cider Brandy in south Somerset.

There are very few things that match a collie’s loyalty, love, and complete selflessness, and our farms would be lost without them.

Autumn in the Hedgerows

Somerset’s lanes are glowing, hedgerows heavy with rosehips and sloes, a few apples still clinging in the orchards. Everything rich, ripe, and full of colour. The last gifts of the season before the frost.

When the weather turns grey, sometimes the best journeys don’t go anywhere.

Rain drummed on the roof, the sky a blur of grey, and we found ourselves with tucked inside one of railway booths, a little world all of its own.

Plates of pure joy arrived one by one (the sweetcorn ribs stole the show), and the s’mores hot chocolate… well, that was the kind of comfort only Pip can deliver.

A cosy carriage, good food, and nowhere we’d rather be.

You know it’s autumn when the air smells of apples and the hum of the press drifts across the yard.

Over at Home Farm in Curry Rivel, Parrett Cider have been busy turning this year’s harvest into something special! apples from their good friend Morris, full of juice and sweetness, it sounds like we’re in for some strong cider next year!

The press runs steady, the pulp piles high, and the yard fills with that unmistakable scent of Somerset cider in the making. The taste of South Somerset in every drop.

I took a wander through Hinton St George yesterday, a village that looks as though it’s been lifted straight from a painting. Golden stone cottages, quiet lanes, and that unmistakable Somerset calm.

It’s a beautiful place: neat, peaceful, and full of charm. It feels a world away from the hum of busier villages, yet it still holds its own quiet magic. A perfectly kept corner of the county where time seems to move a little slower, and an utter joy to visit.

Ever driven past somewhere and just known it’s special?

That’s exactly how I felt seeing Hinton Harvest, tucked between fields, brimming with good Somerset produce and proper farming pride. I’ve never been before, but this is definitely where I’ll be heading for my Christmas turkey this year. You can just tell it’s the real deal.
