POSITIVE DYSLEXIA CONFERENCE!

Today I'm in Liverpool filming the Positive Dyslexia conference, where exhibitors and delegates can learn and promote support strategies that are available for dyslexic and neurodivergent children.

It's been interesting hearing about people's stories today and what different organisations can offer to help us Neurodivergent folk, and am also grateful for the opportunity to film and promote this event too, and that there are people out there who truly care about helping us Neurodivergent folk!

Now it's November, we're all probably going to be seeing and hearing a lot of Christmas-themed posts on our social media platforms, (it seems to get earlier every year!)

And my posts are not going to be an exception - I love Christmas! (Sorry not sorry!)

I'm also feeling rather nostalgic right now, and it's been almost a year since I last went to Disneyland Paris for the festive season for the first time (which is starting again very soon!)

It was such a magical and joyous short break, nowhere does Christmas quite like a Disney Park, and it truly got me into the festive spirit last year (and I wish I was going again this year!)

Anyway, watching this video back of the festive "Shine a Light" parade really brought back fond memories of my first festive Disney trip, and hopefully I'll experience the festive magic again one day!

Anyway, enjoy this video and try to enjoy the Christmas Countdown!

SORRY FOR MY SLOWNESS!

I feel like I've been really slow at replying to messages lately, amongst other things.

This could be due to the fact I've been busy with coursework and editing for the Celebrating Differences Campaign, as well as looking for my next work opportunities, as well as anxiety, all of which can be very tiring.

So already a lot to balance!

Not only that, last week I had a burst blood vessel in my right eye, which I'm still recovering from.

It's really not as bad as it sounds, and the good news is it's slowly healing!

However, it does mean I've been recommended to take more frequent screen breaks than usual (a short break every 20 minutes!), which has been a challenge, particularly as I do spend a lot of time with screens, both with my work and personal hobbies too.

However, I feel like I have been adaptable and have been able to keep to this, take care of myself and also remain productive.

So please be patient! I will reply, and I will get back to regularly scheduled posting, but I might need to take my time first!

SURVIVING A TRAIN JOURNEY AS AN AUTISTIC PERSON!

On my way to London last week, I filmed a few clips of some of the challenges I can face as an Autistic person when travelling on a train, as well as things that help me to cope with train journeys.

It can definitely be a stressful experience, due to many things, such as:

- Busy, noisy and crowded trains

- Heightened sensory input, leading to sensory overload

- Trains being delayed

- Not getting a seat

But some things that help me cope include:

- Having a travel buddy (if availalble)

- Comfort items to help distract me and pass the time, such as my phone, a book, a games console etc.

- Noise cancelling headphones!

- Refreshments such as water, snacks and coffee.

- Getting to the station in plenty of time before the train arrives

- Letting the crowds get off the train before I do.

I hope this video gives an insight on how an Autistic person may feel on trains. Please be considerate, and please let me know what helps you to cope on train journeys!

NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES: A LIFESAVER IN NOISY AND CROWDED PLACES!

I went to London earlier this week for a "Self Care/Treat Myself Day."

I have a very weirdly positive relationship with London, because it is such a busy and noisy place and should be a complete sensory nightmare for myself and other Autistic people.

However I do feel I cope really well with London, and I think it's because I definitely have learned how London works.

One thing that definitely helps me to cope well in London (and other noisy and crowded places) are having noise cancelling headphones with me in public places.

One of the busiest and noisiest places I've found in London is the London Underground. It isn't just the people, but the noise of the tube on the tracks as well, so having noise cancelling headphones in public places in a lifesaver!

In fact, I'm currently wearing my noise cancelling headphones right now as I am writing this post, because I am currently working in a noisy cafe, so these definitely help to drown the background noise out!

Also, it's great that I can listen to music and videos whilst still drowning out background noise, as well as listen in on Zoom/Teams meetings!

I hope you found this useful, and please let me know how you cope with busy and noisy places! It may give me ideas and inspiration, as well as other people who come across this post!

CELEBRATING DIFFERENCES AT CABABILITY!

This morning I completed the final bit of fun, feel-good filming for Staffordshire County Council's Celebrating Differences Campaign for 2025 around inclusive and accessible travel at , a lovely organisation based in Stoke-On-Trent who provide accessible transport for disabled people and people who have additional needs.

It was great to see their passion and enthusiasm for their work and services, which always makes for great content!

For more information, please get in contact with Cabability and go check out their social media pages!

HIDDEN DISABILITIES WEEK!

This week is Hidden Disabilities Week, a week for raising awareness of hidden disabilities so we can get the support we need and deserve.

I'm Autistic, which is classed as a Hidden Disability, and something that brings me a bit of peace and comfort in public places is wearing a sunflower lanyard, as it helps to communicate if I need support in a public place.

Also it helps to raise awareness of hidden disabilities and the fact we may need additional support, and increases the likelihood of us getting support

However I still feel a lot more awareness needs to be done (I don't think a lot of people still recognise the sunflower lanyard scheme, even though it's been around for a few years now, even before Co-Vid!) so hopefully by making this video it will raise awareness of hidden disabilities!

Also remember that having a disability, hidden or otherwise is nothing to be ashamed of, and you are entitled to all the support you need!

FILMING FRIDAY!

Ending the week filming some clips for Staffordshire County Council's Celebrating Differences campaign in lovely Lichfield!

It's been a while since I've been here, but it makes me feel rather nostalgic, especially because a lot of my first paid projects as a baby videographer were in Lichfield, and are still memories I treasure dearly!

Hope you've all had a great week and enjoy the weekend!

I MISS MEDIA CITY!

The other night I was watching TV and saw this Costa advert of a girl leaving home for university, and her mum gifting her a free Costa Coffee from the app.

However, what excited me the most about this advert is that I KNOW WHERE THAT PARTICULAR COSTA COFFEE IS AND I'VE BEEN TO IT!

This is the Costa Coffee I would go to after my BBC shifts at MediaCity last year before the long commute home.

It was also a reminder of how much I miss MediaCity and how much that creative hub inspires me to keep persevering in a career in creative media.

(Also it's National Coffee Week this week, so I thought it was an especially appropriate time to share this post!)

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY!

Today is World Mental Health Day, and mental health awareness and advocacy is something that truly means a lot to me, especially as someone who has struggled with their mental health throughout my life.

I'm also wearing yellow today because of YoungMinds "Wear it Yellow" campaign, to encourage young people to look after their mental health, open up if they need to, and to remind us that we are not alone.

These are definitely reminders that definitely would have helped me in my childhood, and it is truly a comforting feeling knowing I am supported and not alone, particularly as my mental health hasn't been the best lately, but it is getting better and I am recovering, and that is thanks to all the support I've received over the past few weeks.

Also we need to acknowledge our mental health, and each others', every day, not just on awareness days or whenever it's a trending topic!

And with that in mind, I hope you are all doing well, and just remember I am always only a message away if you need to talk about anything mental health related at all. (Or if you fancied a mental health chat over a coffee, then that's more than ok with me!)
