Anyone who has ventured into the farthest reaches of Etherow Country Park in Stockport will know just how special an area the Keg Pool is, sitting among a haven of woodland wildlife and plants. Sadly, this crucial environmental asset is under threat from river erosion. By signing this petition you can help in the fight to save the Keg Pool and raise awareness of its plight.

Walking isn’t just walking. It’s curiosity. It’s looking around and wondering “what’s that sound?”, “why is that flower that colour?”, “what left that footprint?” Or even just “why are trees green?”

And one chap has done more to inspire that curiosity in us - and to answer those questions - than pretty much any other human being alive.

Put myself in the hands of the good people at Country Walking Magazine yesterday and followed their Medlock Valley walk which starts and finishes at the wonderful Daisy Nook Country Park in Greater Manchester.

Plenty of highlights, which included exploring the Park Bridge area to learn about its industrial heritage, a stunning bluebell wood, and a dramatic view of the Manchester City Centre skyline from Higher Hartshead. Oh, and of course Daisy Nook itself with its woodland paths lined with wild garlic.
