Argos Catalogue Winter 1983.

This is from 43 yrs ago. When Michael Jackson’s Thriller was in the charts! Dirty Harry Sudden Impact and Christine came out in late 1983. On telly that was new that year was Knight Rider … loved that show! Also new to telly 1983 was Blockbusters quiz show and Terrahawks.

In 1983 £100 today is equivalent of £350 today. So that £139 Vic20 cost your parents £490 and their new fangled Sharp Video Recorder cost them £1925! MB BigTrack cost £100.

I visited the Bonded Warehouse in Stourbridge today and saw a painting of the Stourbridge Lion so thought I’d make it in to a photo. Had to remove the reflections first.

Photography didn’t really exist in 1829. It was 10yrs later the first commercial camera was launched. Using the Daguerreotype process.

The building is the Foster, Rastrick & Co. New Foundry, which was established in 1821 and located in Stourbridge, England. It’s now Lion Medical Practice.

The trains both made in 1829 are The Stourbridge Lion (Right) and The Agenoria (Left).

The Stourbridge Lion holds major historical significance as it was the first steam locomotive to ever operate in the United States, having been shipped to New York in May 1829. Unlike the Lion, the Agenoria remained in England, where it was put to work pulling coal wagons for the Earl of Dudley’s Shutt End Colliery Railway in Staffordshire.
