💬 A Fond Farewell & New Beginnings

After five incredible years, our Chair of Trustees Mark Humphries is stepping down. His leadership helped Lifespace navigate profound change and challenge - always with care, urgency, and belief in young people 💛

🗣️ “It’s been a genuine privilege to support the extraordinary work of Lifespace. I step down with immense pride in what we’ve built, complete confidence in Lifespace’s future, and huge thanks for the chance to ‘do my bit.’” - Mark

📈 In the last 5 years, we’ve:
✔️ Supported 3,000+ young people
✔️ Seen 86% report improved confidence
✔️ Grown our mentor network by 40%
✔️ Strengthened school & funder partnerships

💬 “But it’s the quiet stories that stay with me… the young person who finds their voice again, the one who returns to school feeling they belong, or the teenager who simply says, ‘Thank you for listening.’ That’s why Lifespace exists.”

🌟 Mark will continue as a trustee and hands over to Laura Prentice and Deputy Chair Mark Beardmore.

👋 Welcome, Laura!

We’re thrilled to welcome Laura as our new Chair of Trustees.

🗣️ “It’s a real honour to follow Mark’s thoughtful leadership. I’m grateful for the continued support of the board and look forward to working with the team to build on a strong foundation - and keep making space where young people feel heard and supported.” - Laura

🌞 That’s a wrap for summer! 🌞

The team is officially on a well-deserved break - but not before ending the term on a high note! 💛

This week, we were joined by our amazing colleagues from the SEND and Primary teams to reflect on our work and explore ways to grow and improve. Your insights were gold - thank you! 🙌

We also had the privilege of taking part in a powerful Trauma Informed training session with our friends at . They shared the inspiring work they’re doing to build Psychologically Informed Environments and embed a trauma-informed approach in everything they do. 💬🧠

We’re heading into summer feeling inspired, grateful, and ready to rest. See you in September! 🌿

🌱 Live from UCL London | Whole School Approaches to Mental Health 🌱

Today, is proud to be attending an inspiring event hosted by the Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition (CYPMHC) and the Schools Wellbeing Partnership. We’re hearing from leaders across education, health, and youth support on how to embed whole school and college approaches to mental health.

During a powerful panel discussion, David Lockwood (NHS England) reminded us that:

Too many young people still present to crisis services with acute needs that could have been avoided through earlier intervention.

Kirstie Stroud (former school leader, now at the Department for Education) shared how Mental Health Leads are helping to shift the narrative in schools - highlighting the importance of balancing "achieving and thriving". This message deeply resonates with our work at Lifespace Trust.

We’re especially encouraged by the recognition that whole school approaches must be nuanced—not only focused on improving school culture, but also ensuring tailored, relational support is available for those who need it most.

At Lifespace, we know that emotional safety is foundational to learning. Young people thrive in environments where they feel heard, valued, and supported.

We’re looking forward to continuing the conversation tomorrow—exploring how we align visions across sectors and keep young people’s voices at the heart of this work.

🧠 Youth Mental Health in 2025: A Call to Action

📊 1 in 4 young people in England are now living with a probable mental health condition.
💔 Anxiety, depression, and eating disorders are rising—especially among girls aged 17–19.
🚫 Many can’t access timely support. Services are overwhelmed.

This isn’t just a statistic. It’s a crisis.

💬 “Without mentoring, I wouldn’t have been able to sit my exams.”

– Becca, Young Leader & Youth Advisory Panel Member

At Lifespace Trust, we see this reality every day—and we’re responding.

🤝 What We Do

We mentor young people aged 7–19 in schools and communities.
Whether it’s anxiety, low mood, school avoidance, or digital overwhelm—we show up with empathy, not checklists.

We also support the adults around them—offering supervision for DSLs and pastoral teams so they feel equipped and resilient too.

📚 COVID’s Emotional Legacy

The long-term impact of the pandemic is real:
➡️ Disrupted transitions
➡️ Emotional dysregulation
➡️ Disconnection

These aren’t short-term challenges. They need long-term, relational responses.

🎉 21 Years of Impact

Since 2004, we’ve:
✅ Mentored 7,000+ young people
✅ Delivered 44,500 hours of 1:1 support
✅ Supported 3,500 more through group activities

And our Youth Advisory Panel ensures young people lead the way.

🚀 What Needs to Change

This isn’t just about one organisation.
We need systemic, relational services that don’t wait for crisis—but show up when life gets tough.

Because every young person deserves to feel:
👀 Seen
🗣️ Heard
💚 Supported
