Rock And Roll Children

Rock And Roll Children Rock and Roll Children is the story of four metalheads in the 1980s. It is a hard hitting account of music and life from that decade.

It’s the 1980s and heavy metal music has exploded across America and Frankie, Bob, Rick and
Jeff are caught up in it. From Dio to Twisted Sister, these metal heads hit up every concert they
can. Attending college in different states, and even countries, heavy metal music is what brings
these four best friends back together summer after summer. But with the middle of the 1980s
begins the “intoleran

ce” of heavy metal music. Girlfriends, yuppies and Jesus freaks want to put
an end to the heavy metal scene just as artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Aerosmith are playing
their greatest hits! Cracks begin emerging in their friendship while everyone is trying to make
their own way in the world, especially when Jeff’s travels lead him to England. Will heavy metal
all-stars like Ted Nugent, Anthrax and Judas Priest bring these four friends back together? Or are
their partying days long over?

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Steve Vai- Passion and Warfare

First, I'll begin with the cliche history introduction but historical fact, at least according to Wikipedia, says that after his stints with David Lee Roth and Whitesnake, guitar legend, Steve Vai, put out his first solo album in six years. Side note: The 1984 "Flexible Leftovers" will be put on my list of missed out albums. According to said history, Steve began recording ideas for the "Passion and Warfare" album back in 1982, but his time with Diamond Dave and Whitesnake curtailed any further development....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Lynch Mob- Wicked Sensation

If there was some sort of rivalry between Don Dokken and George Lynch after the break up of Dokken, I wasn't aware of it. With that said, after listening to Don's "Up From the Ashes" album on my last post and George's band, Lynch Mob's, debut album, "Wicked Sensation," I have to award round one to Lynch Mob. While Don was still looking for commercial success, George comes out with an album which has swagger and rocks!...

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Don Dokken- Up From the Ashes

"Up From the Ashes" was originally meant to be a new Dokken album with Don and new members, however, the threat of a lawsuit from former band members forced Don to record it as a solo album. Looking at the lineup, Don got some really talented, well known musicians to play on the album. John Norum, formerly of Europe, was one half of the guitar duo while Pete Baltes, formerly of Accept, is on bass....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Kreator- Coma of Souls

Reading the history behind Kreator's "Coma of Souls" album, I now have my question answered from when I saw the band at Download in 2018. That question was: When did Mille Petrozza demote himself to rhythm guitar? This album answers that question as it's the first album to feature Frank 'Blackfire' Gosdzik on lead guitar. I always thought that Mille was more than capable of shredding but Frank adds a new dimension to things here....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Death- Spiritual Healing

One thing I have discovered from the tour of 1990, that because I lived in the UK and was absorbed in that thing called, 'real life,' I missed out on some metal bands I would have definitely noticed had I been in the States. As a result, I only had heard of American death metal band, Death, (rather appropriate name I believe), and knew nothing of their previous material before the 1990, "Spiritual Healing," album....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Entombed- Left Hand Path

Here's another example of me being late on the bandwagon. Sweden's contribution to heavy metal is well known throughout the heavy metal cosmos. Acts from the country have entertained us and got us headbanging along with them for many years now. In fact, on my last Sunday at Bloodstock in 2018, several bands from said country performed on the main stage, Evergrey, Amaranthe and At The Gates, and that's just from the top of my head....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Bathory- Hammerheart

First of all, happy Thanksgiving, for yesterday, to all my North American readers. It's the one American holiday I insist on celebrating, even after being in the UK for nearly 40 years. Actually, my family won't have their proper turkey dinner until Sunday and there are reasons for that which I won't bore you with here, although I did have one a few weeks ago at the pub my son Will manages....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Danzig II- Lucifuge

While it might be deemed unforgivable of me not taking much notice of Pantera back in the day, I think I could be forgiven for not taking notice of another American band, Danzig. To start off, their name suggests they're German. Furthermore, I thought they might be a thrash band but in both cases, after reading a bit of their history and listening to their second album, "Lucifuge," I admit that my assumptions were wrong in both cases....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Pantera- Cowboys From Hell

At first, I was going to ask for a time machine so I can go back to the 1980s and give myself a couple of slaps for ignoring Pantera all throughout the decade. I had heard some of their songs and to my shame, never bothered with them much and the worst part is that I have no explanation or excuse for such behaviour....

Great Metal Albums of 1990: Anthrax- Persistence of Time

"Persistence of Time" was one album I couldn't rely on my sister to send me sample tracks of. Dawn wasn't an Anthrax fan at the time and probably not a big one these days. Fortunately, the album gained my attention on its own, in spite of being occupied with chasing a toddler around. Reading some of the backstory behind the album, I was shocked to read that while recording the album, a fire destroyed Anthrax's rehearsal studio along with $100,000 worth of the band's equipment....

Here's complete proof that I was becoming unaware of the music scene by 1990. I blame that thing called life. Even though I was living in Great Britain, it took a tape from my sister in the US for me to discover Little Angels. But what a discovery it was! The song she put on the tape was the phenomenal "Kickin' Up Dust," which is my all time favourite Little Angels song and still blows me away after three and a half decades....

Before I begin in earnest, I have to thank 2loud for this album. If he hadn't been such a big fan of lead singer, Jeff Scott Soto, this great album would have passed me by unnoticed. So, there's nothing more to do here than for me to shout, "THANK YOU 2LOUD!" Now onto the album and the band I hadn't heard of before reading 2loud's blog....
