Police Release Images After Man Attacked by Group of West Ham Fans before August season opener.

Police have issued images of several men they want to identify after a young man was assaulted at a Metro station ahead of a Sunderland AFC match.

The incident happened at Pelaw Metro Station on Saturday, 16 August, at around 2pm, when officers received reports of a disturbance on the platform. According to Northumbria Police, a group of around 20 people believed to be West Ham supporters attacked a man in his 20s before leaving the scene.

The victim sustained cuts and swelling to his face, and the group had already dispersed by the time officers arrived.

As part of their ongoing investigation, police have now released photos of five men they believe could have information that may assist enquiries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said the individuals pictured were in the area at the time and urged them — or anyone who recognises them — to make contact.

People can get in touch by sending the force a direct message on social media or by using the live chat and online reporting tools on the Northumbria Police website. Those unable to use online channels can call 101, quoting reference 094690L/25.
