Yo! You may be aware that it's Refugee Week this week. There are some incredible, volunteer run, programmes taking place in Sunderland atm which support the refugee community across the City - many of the volunteers are some of our most regular customers. This Friday (24th) we'll be hosting the FODI (Friends of the Drop In) Women's Group who will be using our kitchen to prepare a sumptuous lunch for the group and their friends and colleagues. We'll also be contributing a pot of something delicious and providing some tasty brews.
If you want to drop down and say hi we'll be set up in the venue from around 12.30pm. Be absolutely great to see you. We can't promise scran but you'll definitely get a bev and meet someone cool.
✌️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

We are delighted to have confirmed the offer of a wonderful, light-filled and welcoming 3-bedroomed house in Gateshead, just by The Little Theatre and Saltwell Park. The house will make a fantastic home for a family resettling here in our region.

Tonight in Sunderland!

A few more acts announced for the fundraiser at Sunderland Minster THIS FRIDAY. So, we've got a list of legends: Nev Clay, This Little Bird, Lottie Willis, bigfatbig, Kickin' Lillies and us dafties. I think we're going to have two bass players too - just to be a bit more like Ned's.

TODAY!!! Friday 1st April 1pm. We may be huddled in the cold but this is too important a time to not raise our voice. Will you join us?

Tees Valley Together with Refugees Rally at 1pm on Friday 1st April, 2022 at Centre Square, Middlesbrough, TS1 2QJ.
We will gather to hear from speakers with lived experience of the asylum system and call on the Government to scrap its cruel Anti-Refugee Bill. We're encouraging people to bring banners and orange hearts (the symbol of the Together with Refugees coalition).🧡🧡

More than 500 people are currently housed in temporary accommodation across Newcastle whilst their immigration cases are processed.

But there’s a huge backlog of cases and some people have been stuck in hotels several miles outside the city centre for months, living on just £8.25 per week.

This makes it incredibly hard to access key support services like doctor’s appointments, legal advice and English classes.

A donation of just £5 will provide a travel pass connecting asylum seekers to key local services.

Write to your MP to support Ukrainian refugees.

Ukraine is under attack. Appalingly, so is the UK's refugee protection system. We need politicians to make a simple pledge to Ukrainian refugees: you are welcome in the UK. Standing for compassion means standing against the .

Our blog on the rising price of energy bills and how it will mean a choice of whether to heat homes or eat for so many households.

As has been well documented recently, household energy prices are on the rise, and it is set to have a significant and disproportionate impact on those on lower incomes.

We're getting our hiking boots on! 🥾

A group of ANEW volunteers and supporters are planning to walk along Hadrian’s Wall from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend to raise funds and awareness for the project. We’ll be doing the 84-mile walk over six days, from 27th June to 2nd July 2022.

We'd love for as many people as possible to be involved, so if you would like to join us for the full walk, for part of the journey, or to welcome us home as we reach Wallsend, drop Jess a line at [email protected]!
