Today is World Sight Day, a global reminder that eye health matters for everyone. 🤓

If you're a creator or business that wants to reach more people, build trust, and be truly inclusive, start with your visuals.

Design that excludes isn’t just bad UX, it’s a missed opportunity. Low contrast visuals = eye strain, unreadable text, and a barrier for people with dyslexia, low vision, or color blindness.
High contrast visuals = easier to read for everyone, and they meet WCAG standards.

Accessibility isn’t extra. It’s essential. 🙌❤️

She then points to a different text overlay: "High contrast visuals: Clear text and backgrounds". You might think of accessibility tools as something only a small group of people use. But the truth is, when we design with accessibility in mind, everyone benefits.

Take closed captions, for example. They were originally created so that deaf and hard-of-hearing people could enjoy TV, but now captions are used by millions of people around the world, in noisy environments, gyms, or classrooms.

Or even by those learning a new language. Or what about audio description? It helps blind and low vision audiences understand what's happening on the screen.

But it's also used so people can listen while driving, cooking, or multitasking. And even sign language. This is another great example.

It's an expressive language for deaf communities. But it's also been used in classrooms to help toddlers speak before they can communicate, and even while scuba diving.

So what's one accessibility tool you use that makes your life easier? Drop it in the comments and share this with a friend who will find it interesting.

If your video goals are reach and views, please remember this when creating your reels!

You’re leaving out hard-of-hearing viewers, language learners, and people watching in noisy places if you exclude captions.

Add them when you are creating your videos, because auto-captions often get it wrong. Also, adding accurate captions helps more people understand, engage, and remember your message (so don’t let algorithms speak for you!)
And yes, captioned content performs better. Think broader reach, longer watch time, and better accessibility compliance. 👌

Auto-captions often misinterpret words.” Text changes to: “Videos with captions: Expands reach across more contexts. Accurate text supports understanding.” The woman then smiles with text: “Helpful for language learners.”

Have you seen House of Guinness yet?🍻

Beyond being an interesting series, it's also stood out to us for another reason. Irish subtitles.

This is the first time that Netflix has used Irish subtitles on one of its shows.

Steven Knight, creator of , told BBC News NI: "The Irish language is such a vital part of the country's culture and identity, and making the series accessible in this way allows us to celebrate that heritage and reach those viewers who prefer to watch as gaeilge."

Today is , and it's the perfect opportunity to discuss the value of translated subtitles, such as gaeilge, and videos.

The reality is that translating your subtitles and the like into key markets means that audiences can enjoy content to the fullest. Additionally, if that audience feels considered and looked after, that's only going to build brand loyalty.

Read more about the story here:

Netflix said: "The addition of Irish subtitles is part of Netflix's ongoing commitment to Irish members and the country's creative sector."

I hope you didn't forget to check if you got accessibility covered! 😳

Here are 3 overlooked questions you should be asking:

1️⃣ Why do captions sometimes cover people’s faces? (Spoiler: automated tools don’t care where they land, we do.)
2️⃣ Do you still need captions if your video has audio description? (Yes. They serve different needs.)
3️⃣ What’s the fastest way to make an event more accessible? Live captions. Instant impact, lower cost than you’d expect.

Getting the details right is very important (more important than just checking off a box).

Transcript:

Here are three accessibility questions you've probably never thought to ask, and the answers might surprise you. Number one: Why do captions sometimes cover someone's face? This is because most auto-caption tools don't care where they land. We strategically place ours so nothing important gets blocked. Number two: Do you really need captions if you already have an audio description? Number three, what is the quickest way to make an event accessible? Live Captions. It's instant, effective, and costs less than you think. Got another question? Ask us anything you want in the comments below.

Want to make your workplace more inclusive, without waiting on a 50-page policy update? 👇

Start here:

➡️ Communicate clearly: Use plain language, readable fonts, and always caption your videos. It’s basic accessibility, and benefits everyone.
➡️ Design for flexibility: Think quiet spaces, remote options, and flexible hours. Different brains and bodies thrive in different ways.
➡️ Create space for people: Celebrate cultural events, acknowledge personal milestones, and encourage storytelling. Inclusion starts with being heard.

These aren’t add-ons. They’re foundational shifts that make people feel welcome and able to contribute. 🙌

👉 Save this for your next team meeting! Or tag a workplace that’s doing it right.

Visual Description:

A woman in a sparkly outfit (Taylor Swift) appears mid-performance, with text reading: “3 easy wins to make your workplace more inclusive.” The next scene shows a woman typing on a keyboard while stirring a green drink, with text: “Use clear language, captions on videos, and readable fonts to ensure everyone can engage with your content and meetings.” Then, a shot of people walking outside holding coffee cups appears with the text: “Allow flexible working hours, remote options, or quiet spaces that accommodate different needs and working styles.” Finally, an image of a modern office boardroom with large windows and a city view includes the text: “Acknowledge cultural events, personal milestones, and create space where people can share their stories and perspectives.”
