Four waterfalls. One campsite. Endless cold water adventures.

Welcome to Keld in the Yorkshire Dales, one of the best bases in the North for a wild swimming trip. If you love waterfalls and cold water dips this place is basically paradise, with four brilliant spots all within easy reach.

🏊 Swim spots nearby

Catrake Force

A beautiful stepped waterfall tucked into a rocky gorge. To reach the plunge pool you will need to scramble down so take care with your footing.

East Gill Force

This one is only around waist deep in most areas which makes it perfect for families and beginners wanting to experience cold water safely.

Kisdon Force

Two different falls here. The upper falls have a large accessible deep plunge pool and are the most popular swimming spot. The lower falls are for strong swimmers only. This one is jump in all or nothing followed by a good scramble back out.

Wain Wath Force

A broad waterfall with a lovely pebble beach which makes it a great spot for kids to play while others enjoy a dip.

The perfect base is Rukins Campsite, Richmond DL11 6LJ.

No need to book just roll up for the night.

Toilets, café and hot showers available.

Choose a pitch by the river if you fancy a refreshing wake up dip or set up higher for incredible views across Swaledale.

⚠️ Safety notes

Water levels can rise quickly after rainfall and rocks around the falls can be slippery. Always assess conditions before entering the water and avoid swimming alone.

🍺 Bonus

After a day exploring the waterfalls head over to Tan Hill Inn, England’s highest pub, for a well earned drink and incredible views across the Dales.

🪰 Pro tip

Pack a midge net unless you fancy becoming part of the local insect buffet.

Sunday mornings at Weary Bank never disappoint.

Yesterday’s HealthScape Teesside dip was meant to celebrate International Women’s Day… but the girls had other ideas. Apparently they felt left out after I shaved my head a few months back and decided they wanted to join in 🤣

Safe to say the energy was brilliant again. Plenty laughs, cold water, and a group of people starting their Sunday the best way possible.

These mornings are one of my favourite parts of the week just people coming together, getting in the water and enjoying the moment.

The Walrus reflects on the one year anniversary of one of the hardest years he’s ever faced.

This last year, Andy has been going through one of the toughest periods of his life. Today he’s standing here a year later, still showing up, still getting in the water, and coming out the other side stronger.

Cold water, community, and just turning up when life gets hard can make a bigger difference than people realise.

Andy’s words say it best…

“One year later… it’s hard, but things do get better.”

If you’re going through a difficult time right now, keep going. You’re stronger than you think.

Spent some time at Seaham beach yesterday with my son doing a bit of sea glass hunting. It’s a brilliant place to take the kids treasure hunting, but I also find it just as good heading down on your own. There’s something really therapeutic about listening to the sea and sifting through the sand and gravel looking for those little pieces of glass.

The rarest ones to find are the red pieces, but you can come across some amazing colours. I’ve actually used some of the pieces we’ve found to fill small glass pots at home as cable holders.
