So excited to be playing some narsty tearout breakbeat at Sync-Fest at Lola Lo Reading next Saturday (19th). This will be the first time I've played an exclusively breaks set since probably 2011!!!
For those who don't know, I co-ran Thump Events with my main man Phill Buckland and later on Mike Childs, a primarily breaks-orientated crew (but we had DJs of all different flavours throughout our career), running the Beat Clinic nights in various places, but mainly in Newbury (at Bar Cuba) & Reading (at The Iguana).
We had loads of big names in breaks play with us over the years, met some truly lovely people in the process, and even managed to get a nomination for best small club event at the 2008 Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards - we didn't win, and we didn't care as it was never about that kinda thing, but it was awesome to have our efforts recognised.
So yeah, given the history, and my love for that type of music, I'm TOTALLY stoked to be able to play some of the tunes which never failed to make people move their asses back in the day, and hopefully get some new people excited for tearout and bassline breakbeat.
In amongst all those pics below is the planned playlist - I only have 45 mins so there's gonna be some quick switching!
Biggups to all the Thump regular contributors not already mentioned: James Lafferty, Chris Vickers, Jon Cooney, Jason Adams, Toby Mears, Edward Lewis.
Biggups to all the Hardcore Beats crew, cos if you didn't make those records, I probably wouldn't have had much to play 😆 - Nicky D'silva , Ed209 , Ken Mac, DJ Quest, Sam Baobinga, Chris Screwface, The Equalizers, Angel Farringdon, to name but a few of the awesome people who made such awesome music, and also Olly Wood & Deekline for making it all happen for me in the first place with the Hardcore Beats mix CD.
And lastly, biggups to all the international breakbeat family out there keeping the vibe alive!
