In 2021, I published this children's picture book with illustrator Ian G. Beck.
It was all inspired by my daughter going through a phase of having horrible nightmares, which caused her to wake up scared, but then struggle to get back to sleep.
One night, I decided to pick up her cuddly toy and started to tell her a story. I started telling her how her cuddly toy was a special knight, one that has sworn an oath to defend her from the scary things in the world. That they had embarked on a quest by the wizard Sandman to travel to the land of Shadows to tell the Might Shadow Beast (the bringer of bad dreams) to "stop! Go away! And leave her alone!".

"But Dad," she said. "What about all the other children who have bad dreams?"

She hugged that cuddly toy tighter going to sleep that night, knowing that they were there for her to defend her as best they can from bad dreams, and that they were the leader of a secret order of toys across the world, that defend children from bad dreams.

Today would have been Jim Henson’s 89th birthday. Ever since I can remember, his stories and projects have been a source of entertainment and inspiration and I have carried these through to my storytelling approach today.

The puppets may no longer dominate my style, (even Jim didn’t always use puppets) but his approach to creativity, innovation and creating connecting to audiences through storytelling is something that I will always and continue to aspire to and has become core to my creativity. Never Stop Creating. Thank you Jim!
