Alba the Xoloitzquintle

Alba the Xoloitzquintle The most northerly Xoloitzcuintle in the United Kingdom. Alba was born on the 6th of March 2025 and is the most northenmost Xolo in the United Kingdom.

Which brings its own challenges. not least the weather. She lives with 2 Staffies, Atlas and Ariadne, which have hair but only a thin covering and does not keep them warm. This showed us that we could easily manage the coldness in the winter months. Our house is also at a constant 22 Degrees Centigrade so that will also help. The Xoloitzcuintli was one of the earliest dogs to be domesticated by human populations, and has existed in Mexico for more than 3,000 years. Archaeologists have discovered clay and ceramic statues of dogs nearly identical to the current-day Xolo in tombs of the Mayan, Colima and Aztec Indians. These ancient tribes revered the dogs for their supposed healing qualities, and snuggled up with them at night for warmth. According to Aztec legend, the Xolo came about when the god of death, Xolotl, created a dog from the Bone of Life. Xolotl gave the dog to Man and instructed him to guard it with his life. In exchange, the dog would guide Man through the underworld on the way to the heavens.

Alba has had a busy couple of weekends recently at the shows. She had her first Champ show at Scottish Utility Breeds where she won her class and Best Junior in Breed. This meant she's qualified for Crufts 2027!
She then had her first outdoor show at the combined Highland Canine Association and Ross and Cromarty Canine Club where she won her class in both shows and got Best of Breed in the Ross and Cromarty Show.
