N is for Notes

When writing, you may realize you have plot holes or areas where you feel like you’re not explaining your story enough or you’re over explaining. Whatever it is that you want to come back to, take notes. Notes are so helpful because they allow you to continue to write/edit your work without stopping. It allows you to acknowledge an issue, but gives you time to ponder it. Remember, when writing and editing, you’ll find areas of concern that need to be rectified. There is no shame in coming back to problem areas at a later time. Trust the process.

SYNOPSIS:

Before Hamlet’s tragedy came his mother’s story.

In this devastating reimagining of Queen Gertrude’s life prior to coming to court and after her arrival, Kimbalena Zeineddine creates an evocative and painful story of lost innocence and corruption, as well as what it was to be a woman, even the most powerful woman in the kingdom.

Following her family’s death at the hands of the plague, Gertrude is whisked away to the court to become queen. But her path will be fraught with trials and hardships, losses she can never truly overcome. This novel is the inextinguishable tale of a woman surviving in a man’s world.

Time is certainly flying! PALE FLAME by comes out in less than two weeks! We are so excited for you to get this sequel in your hands on October 4th! Keep an eye out for a wonderful book tour hosted by that will be launched in a couple of weeks.

There is lots of hype surrounding this release. Make sure you’re ready for the launch by reading FIRE OF THE BLOOD by Jasmina Coric. Synopsis below!

It didn’t start with fire and blood.
It started with a man, drinking alone in a bar, thinking about a woman, and whether or not to kill her.

Meet Isabrand and Mallory, siblings separated at a young age. Their family has a few problems.

To start, Isabrand has been hired to assassinate his sister. But overcoming his childhood love for her won’t be as easy as he’d hoped, especially when Mallory begins to tell him her life story: details of a horrific childhood at an orphanage for supernatural beings, called the Academy, before finally being rescued by estranged family.

Yet family is never what it seems, as Mallory discovers she is part of an ancient legacy of dragon shape-shifters and witches known as dragoviks. After a murder takes place in her town, Mallory knows she must act to protect her newfound family and home. Joining forces with a team of fellow dragoviks, she begins down a path that will determine her fate. Her future ahead of her, she must decide whether to move forward or return to her past.

M is for Money

No writer likes to admit outright that money is a factor when it is comes to publishing their book. Some say “I just want someone to read my work and for it to make an impact.” That is valid, of course, but the other question remains- what can you do to make your passion for writing a career? And money has to do with it.

Do you want to traditionally publish? Are you willing to give up some creative control and a portion of the money in order to launch your book to- possibly- a bigger consumer base? Or are you going to self-publish? Keep all the creative license and the money, but risk not getting the promotion your book deserves to get readers and, by extension, money? Either route has pros and cons to consider.

Whatever your route, you need to make sure your book is polished. Before you send the manuscript off, you want to make sure your book is given its best chance to be selected. If you’re going to self-publish, you want your readers to be enticed within the first few pages. Contact our editor, Jasmina Coric, at [email protected] to schedule a consultation to make your work the best possible version of itself!

L is for Longevity

When you start writing, your mind tends not to be 100% focused on how many installments you want your to be. You tend to just write what is in your head and worry about it later. However, it is always good to know what direction you want to take your WIP in and how that will impact your writing.

It used to be very common for books to be a part of a trilogy, but does that work for your book? Does a duology, or maybe even a standalone work best for you? You don’t want to feel like you need to write a trilogy because you think everyone else is doing it. So many books now are a variety of novellas, standalones, duologies, trilogies, and chronicles. Don’t try to fit you and your story into an expectation that does not exist. Do right by your book and understand the length that is needed to tell the story without over or under doing it.

K is for Knowledge

We’ve all heard the phrase “Knowledge is Power”, so what do we mean by it here? It is so important that while you are writing your stories that you know who your audience is. This isn’t a simple matter of age, but rather the origins of your story. Is your story centered around religion, culture, sexuality? What would people in those groups expect to read in your work and what would make them comfortable to read your book? Is it okay for your characters to swear? Will your audience be okay with steamy scenes? Know your targeted audience because you could write an amazing book with great characters, but if your targeted audience won’t be comfortable/interested with your book then you risk hurting your book’s success.

J is for Judgement…

It is really hard as a writer to trust your gut and go for what you want. You’re constantly questioning yourself and wondering what your readers want from you and this story.

Forget about them.
This story is for you.
You are the judge.

If you believe a specific event needs to happen in order to advance the story, then trust yourself. Advocate for yourself. If you write what you WANT to write, then it will be 10x better than you writing a scene that you THINK readers want.

H is for Habit

Two weeks ago, we discussed FOCUS, and now we’re going to take it a step further. It is so important to get into the habit of writing something for your book every day. It doesn’t have to be thousands of words, not even a chapter- it can be just a sentence. You need to do something every day, especially to avoid or beat your writer’s block. Don’t think too hard about the scene or the sentence you’re putting into your work. If you reread it the next day and figure out it doesn’t work, that’s okay! It is one avenue you chose to explore and now you can go a different route. Do not think of that as a failure or a setback.

G is for Guidance

It is without a doubt that in order to make your story the best possible version of itself you’ll need to look for guidance. This guidance can be what you make it to be- the guidance of friends, family, fans, editors, other authors, beta readers, and more. Think of these people as your cheering section, and listen to what they have to say. They want you and your work to succeed. These are the people who you trust to give you solicited advice. You don’t have to heed all of it, but try to understand the feedback you’re getting. Think it over and see if there is something you can do to make your story come across more clearly. Remember, you trusted these people with your work. Trust that they have your best interests in mind.

SYNOPSIS:

Had Keegan Digore known that Arciol--a world filled with magic and adventure--existed in parallel to her own, she would have given anything to go there. Instead, she suddenly wakes up a prisoner of the world's tyrannical king with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Now she has to fight for her life in a world that continues to knock her down at every chance given. Had Aron Alagard known the pain that would be inflicted upon him at the hands of his family, he might have acted sooner. Keegan's mysterious appearance sets into motion a chain of events that will forever destroy and reshape the world he knows. Now he must decide which path he will take. Had Jared Sieme known that an act of kindness would result in turmoil and death, he might have let Keegan go her own way. With everything taken from him, Jared must do the only thing he can: move forward. Now he will do everything he can to protect those he holds dearest. Had Kade Tavin known who his sister was, he might have never joined the Vosjnik, the king's elite soldiers. He believes he can use Keegan to do all the things that were previously impossible. Now he just has to get her to safety, by any means necessary. If only they had known how important they were. The Children of Prophecy are the only ones who can protect Arciol. Now they must face the dangers set before them and survive. If only they had known...

F is for Focus

We all know how easy it to lose focus when you’re writing. You write the scene that has been nagging you for days, weeks, maybe even months- but then what? What now? After that scene is done, you may feel that you’ve hit a roadblock and spiraled into writer’s block. It is important to stay focused on your work in times like this, but don’t push yourself too hard. Do small tasks- revisit your outline, reread your work, find some writing prompts and try your hand at them. But stay focused on your book. Do everything with your book in mind so that one day you’ll be sparked with inspiration.

If you’re struggling and need help, contact our editor, Jasmina, at [email protected] . While her skills are in demand, causing her to be booked until September, reach out to schedule a meeting with her to discuss your work and a time for you to start working together in the future. She can help you work out the path you want your story to cruise along!
