Happy 4 years to 🖤

It’s been a real life rollercoaster but I absolutely love doing what I do & meeting so many incredible small business owners along the way - mostly women in business which makes it even more powerful.

Thank you to every single person that has utilised my services over the past 4 years. I never thought when I took the leap into self employment that I would be in the position that I currently am. Booked up 3 months in advance, with a waiting list 👀🥲

I mean, she was never going to write a bad review... 🤣

My wee mum, Christine Paton Mortgage Solutions took the leap into self-employment back in 2017. At the time, it was all a bit uncertain, and if I’m honest, I was a little concerned, because it wasn't really a "thing" back then. But wow—did she absolutely smash it.

Last year, she rebranded under her own name, stepping out from under someone else’s shadow, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Fun fact: I’ve been helping her with social media right from the start. Like so many self-employed legends, she was busy juggling clients, finances, compliance, and everything else that comes with running a business. Social media? That was nowhere near the top of her list—and the “how” of it was even further away.

Even now, she still asks me how to do certain things, which is so relatable for most small business owners. Social media isn’t your main job—it’s just one of those “necessary evils” that comes with running a business. And let’s be real, it’s not where your expertise lies.

Here at Paton Media, we’re all about keeping it real. And let’s be honest, unless you’re Scottish, you probably have no clue what “MWI” means either...

This is a direct quote from a meeting I had with a new client recently.

When someone books a Content Day with me, we always start with a pre-session meeting. Why?!

Because it’s not just about planning the day. It’s about getting inside your head.

I tell every client this: Your business is your baby. It’s not mine. But it’s my job to bring your vision to life, exactly how you see it. If I don’t? I haven’t done my job properly.

Invited to Careers Night at Renfrew High to help the weans pick their future 👀

My advice to them all - you don’t need to choose the path you are going to be on for the rest of your life ❌ new opportunities arise, things change, the world changes…

I wanted to do fashion - I did fashion branding at uni. I don’t work in fashion.

I worked in various marketing departments for 8 years before going out on my own.

Never in a gazillion years did I think or want to be self employed - but here I am, making a living on my own terms.

People change career at any age - so don’t be pressured.

They only really came to chat to me for the free biscuits though 🤣 xo

My Gran is always asking me what I actually do for a living… 🤪

And it’s really difficult to explain to an 89 year old who doesn’t understand the digital life we all live 🫣

It’s not like my cousins who are teachers, scientists or work in law - that’s easy to understand…

So how do I explain?

Well you know how newspapers & billboards and they have adverts on them? I kind of do that but on the internet where it’s much more fast paced and things change constantly.

Marketing has changed dramatically over the years & its constantly evolving.

Customers & clients don’t just Google you anymore, they look on your social media channels to see what you do, where you do it & if you meet their needs or not.

At I’m here for the little guys, for those who don’t have the time, resource or knowledge to do it themselves.

But there’s 2 sides to that:

🫧 The Content Day is for those who don’t have the time - they are business owners who are deep in it but know they need to promote themselves.

🫧 Content School is for those who want to do it themselves but don’t know how to. (Coming next month 👏🏽)

This is something I had never heard of before, so when Sharon contacted me asking for help with creating content to promote her new venture I was so intrigued.

I attended a class before the content day just to get a feel for it & understand what it’s all about.

Laughter has so much power - did you know that?

Laughing can destress, ease tension & anxiety, helps heart health & mental health as well strengthening the immune system - you also walk away with an aching face & stomach 🤪🤣

I urge anyone who could be doing with destressing to attend one of Sharon’s classes or get in touch with her if you are a business owner looking to do some employee wellness.
