Sponsored > Joy Bale Boone Poetry Prize
Deadline: Oct 1. Submit now for publication in Spring 2026 in The Heartland Review. Prizes: $400 first-place gift card, $240 second-place gift card, and $100 third-place gift card. Fee: $10 for 1-3 unpublished poems. No limit on style or length. Clay Matthews will judge: "I love a wide range of poetic forms—from sonnets and sestinas to long lyrical works. Whether short or long, formal or free, I hang on to this value of an authentic connection with the subject/speaker through the page, which necessarily looks different from writer to writer."

Our Story

It can be difficult to get your foot in the door with a great publishing company, but we believe that there are many talented writers with undiscovered potential out there. For this reason, Almond Press has established a line of creative writing competitions to challenge writers to create a unique work that can showcase their personal storytelling ability. Authors that are chosen by the publishers from these competitions will be granted an opportunity to see their works published by Almond Press. Publishing is currently offered for electronic markets, although print markets may be open to competition winners at a later date.
