"Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."
It's been quite the relief to take some time out recently to catch up on backlog and finally get around to some overdue visits to pals in different parts of London, including Islington here at George Orwell's house! Looking forward to launching some science-fiction of my own in (hopefully) the nearish future... thanks for the photo, Jack, and for encouraging me to be a bit more of a tourist in my home city 😉

Hard to believe it's December already, did it sneak up on anyone else?

Nighthawks has had a pretty good time recently with its well-received screening at the Portsmouth Shorts::Cut Film Festival hosted at SouthseaCinema&ArtsCentre - thank you for a wonderful evening!

We've also been selected for live showcase screening at the Little Venice Film Festival which will be taking place in London April 22nd-28th - thank you for your consideration, we're very happy to have made the selection!

Internationally, we have even been selected for the 15th Sogang Youth Film Festival in South Korea. It's been great to be included and meet other international producers such as the industrious Team 91 - thank you, too!

But wait, there's more! Our most recent exciting update is that we've returned to Lift-Off Global Network for this year's London Lift-Off Film Festival - meaning that Nighthawks is once again available to watch online until December 28th during the Public Round of viewing and voting alongside many other fantastic short films in the LOCAL FILMMAKERS: LONDON programme!

Huge thanks to the festival teams for your recognition and support, and great work, Nighthawks team!

Funny to think of turning 32 on the 21st in 2025 tomorrow... Honestly, there's barely been headspace this year to plan any kind of celebration. It's mostly been a year of quiet survival in a personal sense, but I'm very proud of those I've had the pleasure to work with, the projects we've worked on, and the progress that's been made during this time. I've never felt more "experienced" in what I'm trying to accomplish and it is wonderful to be working with the people that can make it happen. I am very grateful to those who have helped keep me somewhat alive and (relatively) sane and also to all those who have supported our work this year - thank you genuinely SO much, and if anyone else wants to get involved in making our new film on the topic of men's mental health, "Dig Dig Dead", a reality then please check out our Greenlit at https://greenlit.com/project/dig-dig-dead. Thanks also go to Daniele Roversi's photography for catching a good side during our publicity photoshoot back in March

NEW TEASER for our upcoming short horror, Dig Dig Dead, starring Joshua Urquhart, Eva Rae Thomson, and Howard Saddler!

We've had an incredible pre-production trying so many cool things we can't wait to share with you! If you like what you see and want to get involved, we have some great items available at our online store on Greenlit https://greenlit.com/project/dig-dig-dead and it all helps to make this film a reality.

It's World Mental Health Day, and with this film we hope to encourage more open discourse on the topic of men's mental health and addictive behaviours. Be part of British independent cinema, and horror filmmaking for a good cause!

Another huge thanks goes out to those who have offered their help with the production over the last year, including Fenland and Newton Parrish Councils, the Wisbech Society, Hawk Lenses, REMO Wisbech, and Fascinating food!

Coverfly, the international screenwriting competition platform, has been extremely good to us over the years - placing "Dig. Dig. Dead!" in their Top 9% and "Symptoms May Include Teleportation" at their Top 6% via the scripts' competitive performance worldwide - so we are very sad to hear that the platform has been closing, the competitions finding new hosts and channels to connect writers, readers, and filmmakers in future.
Thank you so, so much for being such a great encouraging resource and championing indie projects such as ours, Coverfly, our project teams are immensely grateful for your recognition and the ongoing support it has provided ❤️

Honestly, I can't recommend this group enough; Melanie Perry of Poppy Perry Media and Julie Hyde Mew, the founders and hosts, really took me under their wing in helping me get established and confident in my own creative career. Through them, I met such marvellous artists as NUX Photography by Brigitta Scholz Mastroianni, screenwriter and consultant Elie de Rosen, been able to work on projects with people like the talented Jade Vincent of Poisoned Skull SFX, and it's been hugely reassuring to speak to such supportive people as therapist Gloria Prest, coach Khalid Abdullah of Planet Village, and accountant Sarah-Jayne Slocombe of Amethyst Raccoon, mentor Lisa Birtles, actor Kathleen Shaw, and encourage each other's concepts with Sean Antony and James Davison of Progressive Play, among many others!

Hello all, from a peaceful staycation in South London with an adorable playful cat.
I retired from social media over recent months following a long series of unfortunate circumstances and events that finally came to a head earlier this year, and it's been a case of getting through the days and weeks in minimal survival mode ever since. The time has blurred by in a haze of quietly tackling each most urgent task and deadline behind the scenes as they arise and then suddenly it's June, living at a new address.
Much has happened within the blur and we've got many updates across several projects to share with you over the summer, but for anyone who hasn't had a reply from me in a while - I deeply and sincerely apologise. I'll be catching up with you all as soon as possible, but thank you for bearing with me while the days have been a challenge to get through.

On a happier note to start on those catch-ups: I was long overdue some new shots and NUX Photography by Brigitta Scholz Mastroianni really, REALLY delivered. We had a wonderful day roaming some of London's eclectic and macabre environs, including the Old Operating Theatre here. Thank you so much for your skill, time, company, and patience, Nux, and thanks also go to Tajona and Hannah for the rings (and the latter also for restoring one of my favourite ties).

-Max
