Serenade Radio's brass band slot at 9 o'clock this evening features the Hall Royd Band from Shipley, conducted by Mark Sherwood. The programme was originally broadcast as From The Bandroom #13 in January 2019
We've had to remaster our old material, partly to better fit Serenade's time slot, but also to account for the fact that we've got much better equipment now than when we first started seven years ago. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, this month's From The Bandroom programme on East Leeds Community Radio featured Yorkshire Evening Post Brass, a symphonic 10 piece brass group which evolved from a full brass band. It can be heard any time on our radio player at https://elcr.org.uk/from-the-bandroom

Serenade Radio's brass band slot at 9 o'clock this evening features the York Railway Instutute Brass Band, conducted by our good friend, David Lancaster. The programme was originally broadcast as From The Bandroom #11 in October 2018.

We've had to remaster our old material, partly to better fit Serenade's time slot, but also to account for the fact that we've got much better equipment now than when we first started seven years ago. Enjoy!

Serenade Radio's brass band slot at 9 o'clock this evening features producer, Phil's old school band, Corpus Christi, which reformed in 2007 to play at the 90th birthday party of their music teacher, and have been together ever since. We featured them in From The Bandroom #10 from October 2018.

We've had to remaster our old material, partly to better fit Serenade's time slot, but also to account for the fact that we've got much better equipment now than when we first started seven years ago. Enjoy!

When the programme finished, go to https://elcr.org.uk/from-the-bandroom to year Yorkshire Evening Post Brass at 10pm.

For our June edition of “From The Bandroom” we travel to Aberford, a small village to the East of Leeds to meet Yorkshire Evening Post Brass, a ten piece orchestral brass ensemble.

The group has a direct lineage going back to the Leeds Model Band which was founded in 1856, and which, through many sponsorships over the years, was also known as the Cameron Ironworks Band, the John Waddington Band, and finally, the Yorkshire Evening Post band.

Conducting the band for the programme is Lee Whitworth, who we recently met as musical director of the Lofthouse 2000 band. We’ll be talking to Lee and to players and officials of the band, but, as always, most of the show is filled with the music recorded on our visit to their bandroom.

From The Bandroom with Yorkshire Evening Post Brass, 10pm, Friday 27th June on East Leeds Community Radio.

A taster of this coming Friday's edition of From The Bandroom, before we post our normal trailer later in the week. Here's Yorkshire Evening Post Brass playing the James Bond Theme.

This group are direct descendents of the old Leeds Model Band, but over a few name and sponsoship changes have morphed into this superb symphonic brass ensemble.

Friday night at 10pm on East Leeds Community Radio, and afterwards on our radio player.

We've had an incredible day in Salford recording the Greater Manchester Youth Brass Band for our October programme. It was really uplifting to hear a group of young players tackling difficult material so competently and musically. They could give any first section band a run for their money. Our thanks go out to the players, tutors and organisers.

Appropriately, for Whit Friday, Serenade Radio's brass band slot at 9 o'clock this evening features our trip to Greenfield in Saddleworth to meet the Boarshurst Band in From The Bandroom #8 from August 2018.

We've had to remaster our old material, partly to better fit Serenade's time slot, but also to account for the fact that we've got much better equipment now than when we first started seven years ago. Enjoy!

For our May edition of “From The Bandroom”, we’re back in Yorkshire for the most Easterly band we’ve ever covered, the Driffield Silver Band.

Like many of our very oldest bands, it was formed before the invention of the Saxhorn family of instruments, and so started out with ophicleides and serpents in the line up. Records show that the then Driffield Town Band played on the occasion of the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1837. Twenty years later it became an all brass band.

Their musical director, Peter Kench, got his first taste of brass bands as a cornet player here, and then went on to study at Hull university where he was a founding member of their brass band. In more recent years he conducted Wakefield Metropolitan Band before taking the helm at Driffield in 2022.

We’ll be talking to Peter and to players and officials of the band, but, as always, most of the show is filled with the music recorded on our visit to their bandroom.

From The Bandroom with Driffield Silver Band, 10pm, Friday 30th May on East Leeds Community Radio, and available afterwards on our radio player.
