I'm sat in the garden again and can feel the inspiration coming on so I've grabbed my notebook for a brainstorming session.

I don't know what it is about being outside but it inspires me.

I get some of my best ideas whilst outside, particularly on a day like today when the sun has been shining.

I'm currently refreshing my marketing strategy, I regularly update it and I also review my target audience. Both I and they evolve over time so it doesn't hurt to take another look every so often.

Ooh I haven't been here for a while!

It looks a bit different with new Instagram features showing up like polls and music.

I've been hanging out on linkedin for a while but thought I'd pop back over.

I can see I have a few new followers - hi!

And to my longtime followers - hope you're doing good.

For those that don't know me, I'm Gemma a mum of 2 boys from Worcs and I'm a story focussed copywriter - I help busy mums with your marketing so you can have a better work life balance and spend more time with your kids.

After centuries of tradition, the English alphabet is undergoing a significant transformation.

In a landmark collaboration between the University of Cambridge and Collins English Dictionary, experts have determined that the current alphabetical order no longer aligns with how we naturally pronounce the letters.

Starting from Tuesday 1st April 2025, the alphabet will be officially reorganised to follow its alpha-phonetic sequence—the order in which letters are most commonly vocalised. This restructuring aims to improve literacy, streamline language learning, and better reflect spoken English.

Linguists and educators worldwide have praised this move as a logical step forward, bringing written English closer to its spoken form. The change will gradually roll out across schools, official documents, and digital platforms over the next five years.

Right now, I'm not overly active on facebook or instagram as the algorithms are constantly changing and I find linkedin to be a better platform due to the b2b nature of my business.

There's so much more to being a copywriter than just writing the words.

This is more of an accurate representation (in chocolate form) of what I spend my time doing.

30% brainstorming ideas
50% research
20% writing

And if those tasks were team roles this is how much Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate each would get!

It's been 3 years! 3 years this month since I started my business Vale Digital UK.

The thought of starting my own business was scary and overwhelming but I was determined to make it happen so I could give up my job in the corporate world and spend more time with my family.

To beat the overwhelm, I broke down the process of starting my business into small manageable weekly steps.

Weekly steps included tasks such as:

Weeks 1&2 - Decide what my business would be and what I would do
Week 3 - Choose a business name
Week 4 - Secure Social media handles
Week 5 - Buy the domain
Week 6 - Apply for a business bank account
Week 7 - Create business logo
Week 8 - Write first draft of website homepage
Week 9 - first social media posts...

Each step brought me closer to creating an established business. There were more firsts too - my first networking breakfast, first 121, first client and most excitingly, my first payment.

My goal was to leave my corporate job by the end of June 2022 and I achieved it with a few weeks to spare.

Now don't get me wrong, I wasn't some big overnight success. It's been hard work with some very tough months and there have been more than a few moments where I found myself on a job board in the early hours of the morning.

But I'm still standing, things are still heading in the right direction, and all because I took those very first steps and kept going!!!
