Spending a weekend down at the seaside where my Mum grew up, she mentioned about the Life Boat Station which she saw daily and of course the kids and I had to check it out. RNLI Selsey Lifeboat
When my mum was younger she remembered about the slipway being out in the sea itself. However in 2016 this was demolished to make way for the new, onshore station which opened in 2017. And so, after 104 years of slipway launches, Selsey Lifeboat is now back to its starting point of launching across the beach.
The station is open for people to come and have a look, learn about the boats and the work which the team does. We were very lucky when we arrived as Shannon was actually in house, and we were able to view this from the walkway. It was very impressive and Noah was over the moon at seeing it.
On hand that day was a lovely volunteer who told us all about the station, Shannon who is the all weather lifeboat along with a D class inshore boat. We also watched some videos showing the history of the Life Boat Station and also got to see a real life rescue too. This was fascinating to watch.
The children were silent taking in all the information, and mesmerised by seeing the boat in action. Then they both had great fun dressing up in the RNLI waterproofs. We had a lovely morning here learning about the work in which they do.
