👶 Birth - 6 months 👶
🧠 Beginning to read very early in a child's life is important because the roots of language are developing in a baby’s brain even before they can talk! The more words your baby hears over time, the more words they learn
⚫⚪ Why black and white?
Before they’re born, babies can tell the difference between light and dark. At birth, a baby’s eyesight is still developing; their eyes haven’t yet learned how to work together, this will come over the next few months.
⚫⚪ A baby's colour perception is also limited at birth. Although there is varying evidence about which colours baby can see, there is wide agreement that babies first see white, black, and shades of grey.
🔴There is evidence to suggest that red is another one of the first colours a baby will be able to see, and the contrast with black and white makes it easier for babies to detect.
👉 Though your baby may seem too little to understand, he/she enjoys your company and the sounds of your voice and words.
👉 At this age, babies may come to recognize the book-sharing routine by calming, widening their eyes, or smiling and kicking to show excitement.
👉 Babies will also want to explore books through their senses by grabbing and chewing on the book.
👉 They may not pay attention to the whole story, so take a break when they get bored.
