Poem of the month for May is Silence as Salvation. I used to love watching the clouds and seeing all sorts of things in the shapes. I should do it more often.
Silence as Salvation
Turn off the word and thought machine,
Let the deepest, silent soul
Start on wordless, all-day prayer,
Bread and butter meditation,
Let God speak through His creation.
Look, look up, survey the skies,
See the clouds that float up there.
Look with newly opened eyes
At the pageant in the air -
Racing skiffs and royal barges,
clipper ships and ghostly galleons
Sailing on a sea serene,
Changing, charming and enchanting,
God’s majestic go-between.
Cotton white they float against
Imperial and baby blue,
Performing in celestial liturgy,
Robed in every gorgeous hue,
Orange-silver in the dawn’s aurora,
Red-gold backlit at the end of day,
Beautiful in stormy charcoal,
Ravishing in silver grey.
Look in love and in amazement,
Let them pray.
