OMD's 'Enola Gay' was released on this day in September 1980. The single addresses the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the aircraft Enola Gay on 6 August 1945, toward the conclusion of World War II.
The single proved to be the band's biggest chart hit at that time, reaching No. 8 in the UK charts. It was also an international hit, topping the charts in Italy, Portugal and Spain.
