40 years ago, in July 1985, the Renault 25 V6 Turbo made its debut in the UK as the flagship of La Regie's large car range. Initially developing 180bhp, it boasted a top speed of 140mph. And while our editor Gavin may have an unhealthy fondness for the Safrane, I'm pretty sure he is a fan of the 25, too. Are there any fans of large French luxo barges out there?

Here's some more of the pages that you'll see in issue 35 of Classic.Retro.Modern. Available in all good newsagents now, and perhaps also some that are just mediocre :)

25 years ago this month, the refreshingly different Chrysler PT Cruiser burst onto the scene and arrived in UK showrooms. While many weren't ready for the bold styling, it carved out a very small niche in UK motoring, and should be celebrated for being quirky and different. Shame about the woeful interior though.

A very happy Independence Day to our readers in the USA. Wishing you all a happy 4th July.

The Chrysler Crossfire may wear an American badge on its nose, but it was assembled by Karmann in Osnabrück in Germany, and shared a platform with the R170 Mercedes-Benz SLK.

Issue 35 is now on sale, and is more palatable than an in-flight glass of white wine

The Rover 200vi is one of the most understated and unassuming hot hatches ever built. But don’t let its butter-wouldn’t-melt styling fooling you, because behind that chrome grille you’ll find a firecracker of an engine, used to great effect in the MGF VVC and Lotus Elise 111S. It’s like a Werther’s Original dipped in Red Bull or a mug of Ovaltine with a shot of vodka, both of which sound more palatable than the ‘undrinkable’ white wine served on the British Airways flight to Genoa…

You can read about the 200vi in the new issue, which features the usual eclectic mix of cars from the sixties to the noughties. There isn’t an article on the Mk4 Astra (boo, hiss, etc, etc), but you will find words and pics from Antony Ingram’s trip to Southend in a Smart Crossblade, Rich Duisberg’s love of the Matra Bagheera and Tatra T600, and why the 604 was Peugeot’s last proper luxury car. Meanwhile, Jon Burgess is back to dispel a few more myths, this time related to the Ford Probe.

We’re delighted to welcome Paranjay Dutt as a new columnist, while Georgiana Buckingham-Smythe serves up another round of Celebrity Squares, including Slade with a Ford Transit.

Elsewhere, we’ve got a road trip in a Citroën CX, postcards from EMWalhalla and London Concours, European special editions, and some period camping and caravanning photos in time for your summer hols. We fancy a GLT Monolite Transcontinental caravan with its fancy rear spoiler.

All this and much, much more in what is probably the most aromatic classic car magazine… in the world. We look good on Readly, but we look even better on your coffee table, adding colour and fragrance to your living room.

Enjoy the new issue.
