🎉 Today's Totally Local Tuesday: Epsom’s Playing Out Sessions! 🚲🎨
Local parent, grandparent, and ex-primary teacher Jo has brought Playing Out to Epsom — a simple idea where neighbours close their road for a few hours so children can play safely, just like we used to!
Inspired by the previous street parties, Jo discovered the Playing Out scheme online, visited its roots in Bristol, and worked with Epsom & Ewell Borough Council to launch the town’s first session in November 2023. Now, every second Sunday of the month, her street comes alive with chalk, scooters, pizza, and community spirit!
Jo’s helping other local families do the same, with resources and support ready to go. 💛

📵 Screen-Free Sunday: Simple Fun at Home 🏡
Take a break from the screens and enjoy some slow, creative family time this Sunday with a Build-Your-Own Obstacle Course — right in your living room or garden!

🪜 What you'll need:

Pillows, blankets, chairs, broomsticks, boxes — whatever you’ve got lying around!
A bit of imagination and a playful spirit 💡
🎯 How to do it:

Set up a safe but silly course with tunnels to crawl through, cushions to jump on, and things to balance across.
Give each family member a turn to run the course – time them or add fun challenges (walk like a crab, hop on one foot, balance a teddy on your head!).
Let the kids redesign the course – they’ll love being in charge of the next version!

🍪 Finish the fun with a family bake: Easy No-Bake Chocolate Cornflake Cakes

Ingredients:
100g milk chocolate
50g butter
2 tbsp golden syrup
75g cornflakes
Sprinkles or mini marshmallows (optional!)
Method:

In a saucepan, melt the chocolate, butter, and golden syrup together over low heat.
Stir until smooth, then remove from the heat.
Gently fold in the cornflakes until they’re fully coated.
Spoon into cupcake cases and decorate if you like!
Pop them in the fridge for about an hour to set.
👨‍🍳 It’s the perfect sweet treat to make together – simple enough for little hands, satisfying for everyone, and no oven needed!

CD Walkmans: sleek, chunky, and a total vibe – until you dared to go for a jog. 🏃‍♀️💿
One bounce too many and your carefully burned mix CD would skip like mad and ruin your groove.
(Shoutout to anyone who tried running with one clipped to their waistband — true warrior energy 💪).

Now?
Our teens stroll around with tiny AirPods permanently glued in, no wires, no skipping, no batteries to beg from the remote control stash.
Must be nice. 😅
