Film Academy Milton Keynes has about 150 films on its YouTube Channel produced by young people from Milton Keynes and beyond.

https://www.youtube.com/

The films are generally well produced with high production values and good storytelling.

They feature themes such as knife crime, black pioneers from Milton Keynes, black contribution from medicinal and Roman times, People of global impact from the city, healthy living and lifestyle, sports personalities and much more.

First if you run a youth group or even want to discuss a theme with your class, then there is a short film on the website you can use.

Secondly if you are interested in running a film club in your school or youth group then we are the ones to call (Not Ghostbusters). The Government just released a policy paper on the value of creativity in schools and filmmaking education ticks every box, every time.

The British Film Institute Short Course returns to Film Academy Milton Keynes for the third time this October.

I am so pleased for the young people who will get an opportunity to develop their filmmaking skills and receive accreditation which supports their future education and career objectives in film.

They also become BFI alumni and receive information about further training and even work experience opportunities.

Here in Milton Keynes 4 of the young people who were on the BFI course last year were part of the The Writers' Room' which created 'The Jacksons of Milton Keynes'. The are receiving further opportunities working on the set of the TV series giving them all TV writing and production credits.

Details of exact dates and venue will be shared soon.

I walked into The Writers' Room on Sunday to encounter a very lively creative debate/discussion? taking place as ideas were suggested, accepted, discarded or added to the development of the TV series, 'The Jacksons of Milton Keynes'.

Fantastic energy for creative to flourish.

The next Writer's Room session is online on Thursday 9th April from 7-9pm. The next in-person meeting is on Sunday 13th April 2025

There was only one male in the room so more males are invited. This Thursday's online session and this Sunday's online is the last opportunity for any new person to join in. Following these sessions, The Writers' Room will be closed as the Writers focus on creating the new series. So if you are interested in developing scriptwriting skills or writing for TV, this is your final opportunity to take part in this unique experience.

Participants range from students to business owners, radio hosts and NHS practitioners, and aged from 18 to over 50, some with experience in writing and some with none at all.

So if you would like to join in as a beginner or at a more advanced level, you are welcome.

if you cannot make the in-person sessions you can be an online only participant whose role is mainly to critique and what has been developed on Sundays.

Head to the website to book Looking forward to seeing you in Milton Keynes' Writers' Room

I tried out Studio Ghibli on a couple of my images.

It got it quite wrong, but as a creative, I am unfazed. This is so exciting for me and what an opportunity to explore creativity in our time.

I cannot help but think about the response of the creative industries to GenAI which has been so resistant.

George Luca was a pioneer in digital filmmaking and when he wanted to produce the first Star Wars film using digital technology, he had such a backlash and most studios refused to support him. He was dubbed as the devil and on a mission to destroy film as the only method of making films.

He pushed ahead anyway and Star Wars was produced on digital and the rest is history. Most films are produced using digital technology today and thank God for that.

I just feel that for a creative sector, where innovation is supposed to lead, the sector can be quite myopic and prone to resisting change.

I think if they would learn from their most recent history, the sector would understand the best way forward is working together to ensure a win win because like it not, GenAI is here and the world is loving it.

This article featuring Learners who recently received Certificates of Completion from the Mayor of Milton Keynes reminded me to highlight just how well the Learners did on this course.

The Course was an NCFE Level 2 but according to the NCFE Accessor the quality of the work was at Level 4/5.

A testament to the excellence, commitment and quality of work we have always delivered to the young people who come through our doors.
