Day zero on the Quantocks … opening the four trenches at Cothelstone. The mechanical digger has gone, now we are looking forward to the arrival of the volunteer diggers as we try to unearth the secrets hidden under the soil.

Just from opening the trenches, we have already found a tea pot handle, some beautiful Romano-British sherds as well as tiny bits of Bronze Age pottery … which could be over two thousand years old!!

Excitement for the next couple of weeks is already at 11 out of 10!

Dowsbourgh Hill Fort on the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

Part 1 …

During September 2021, the South West Heritage Trust (SWHT), with funding from the Quantock Landscape Partnership Scheme, were tasked with putting in place a couple of drainage pipes to help clear rain water from a public path that was leading to damage to the Hill Fort. It also gave the SWHT the rare opportunity of taking a closer look at the formation of the banks surrounding the Hill Fort in the hope of finally being able to give a date to it. Were they successful?

The Local Film Company was asked to record this rare opportunity of having a closer look at a scheduled monument and this is the first of two short films covering the work carried out and the results.

We are so pleased to have been asked to work with the Somerset and Yeovil District Hospital Foundation Trusts on this campaign.
And it’s a very important message. A&E departments will always see you if you go there, but there are other, quicker and possibly more appropriate places within the NHS you can go to for help. 💙
