I just want to give a big heartfelt THANK YOU (and a cheeky apology) to the two fabulous women who make Legacy Fundraising Chat happen behind the scenes 🎙️💙

🎬 Hannah Quinn – thank you for your editing wizardry and saint-like patience. My solo episodes often include some… let’s say creative detours 😅 – but you always manage to make them sound smooth, clear, and (miraculously) professional!

📲 Vicky Kangurs of Tabby Tiger Freelance – thank you for keeping our social media on point and for making sure our transcripts are polished and accessible. You help our episodes reach more people, and make sure no one misses the gems – even if they prefer reading to listening.

Let’s be honest – my solo recordings usually need a bit of extra TLC But thanks to Hannah and Vicky, the podcast gets out the door looking and sounding its best, helping more legacy fundraisers feel inspired, informed, and connected.

So grateful to be working with you both! 🙌

What’s the one legacy message you’d keep if you only had space for one sentence?

When designing a DL leaflet for legacy prospects, less is definitely more. But getting the message right in just a few words? That takes skill.

In my latest episode, I unpack the 7 do’s and 8 don’ts of a legacy enquiry leaflet—and why getting this right matters more than ever.

What happens when even the most senior leaders realise they can't do it alone?

In this powerful podcast episode, Lucy — a former CEO and current changemaker — opens up about an unexpected realisation while developing her legacy fundraising strategy: she needed someone to bounce off.

Despite her seniority, her expertise, and her passion, she recognised that strategy done in isolation wasn’t sustainable — or wise.

🎧 We explore:
Why even experienced leaders need sounding boards

How digital-first legacy engagement surprised a seasoned fundraiser

Why listening deeply to supporters changes everything

And what it really means to honour a legacy

This episode is a must-listen for anyone navigating strategy, legacy giving, or simply leading with heart in a complex world.
Part 2 of our conversation is out now.

Legacy fundraising often gets pushed down the to-do list. It's not flashy. It's not fast.

But what if legacy giving could be the most values-aligned, supporter-respecting, and long-term sustainable fundraising you're not yet doing?

In this podcast episode, Lucy breaks down:
🔍 Why they started with a supporter survey
🧠 How strategy co-creation beat out consultancy
👥 What it took to win board and team buy-in

📢 Spoiler: It led to their first legacy gift before the campaign even launched.

Three and a half years ago, developing a legacy fundraising strategy was just a wish. This week, Lucy Anderson Jones shared the news of receiving their first legacy gift—from one of the earliest supporters who had answered their legacy interest survey.

What happened in between?

🔹 A strategy co-created with coaching support
🔹 True collaboration across a small (but mighty!) team
🔹 Deep alignment with values, ethics, and supporter voices
🔹 A step-by-step rollout—with patience, purpose, and passion

Legacy fundraising isn't just for the big players. It's for any organisation willing to put the time in, trust the process, and stay true to their values.

“Ask them why they care.”

That’s where legacy conversations really begin, says Lena Vizy.

Part two of our conversation is out now, where she reminds us that tools like Will-writing services are just that—tools. The heart of legacy fundraising lies in authentic connection.

Only when we understand someone’s why can we inspire them to leave something meaningful behind.

“Empathy, not age, prepares you for legacy fundraising.”

That insight from Lena Vizy stopped me in my tracks.

In my recent podcast episode, Lena—a brilliant European consultant at Legacy Futures shared how her personal journey shaped a people-first approach to legacy giving.

You don’t need grey hair to talk about Wills - you need heart, curiosity, and the ability to really listen.

Hear why legacy fundraising starts with people, not plans.

Ten months. No existing legacy plan. Limited cross-team understanding.

Tune into this 2 part episode on how Guilli (alongside her colleagues and a legacy consultant 😉achieved the following during her time at Charity for Civil Servants

-built a new legacy strategy
-launched a Legacy Awareness Week
-secured legacy stories
-got the board buy-in
-budget approval for the charity’s first legacy manager.

Was it hard work? That doesn’t even come close.

But we listened, simplified, and invited people in — even when they were busy or sceptical.

Because legacies aren’t just for legacy teams.

They’re about loyalty, trust, and the long-term relationships every fundraiser builds with their colleagues across an organisation.

Let’s celebrate the messy, brilliant process of making it happen.

"Being right is not enough."

In legacy fundraising, we all know, it has the the highest ROI over any other income stream.

But as Rachel Gedge from Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) shares, knowing the facts doesn’t mean everyone else is instantly on board.

Winning people over takes time.

As Rachel shares in our chat, it’s about listening, understanding their worries, and meeting them where they are. Turns out, legacy confidence isn’t just for supporters—it’s for colleagues too!
