Running ads from the wrong ad account will waste money. Running ads from the right one will save you money. It’s that simple but it’s also very easy to get them mixed up.

Feel like your LinkedIn Page is gathering dust?
You’re not the only one! With a few smart tweaks, it can become one of your most powerful tools for connection and visibility. Here’s how 👇

I’m teaming up with the brilliant Caroline McShane to run a three-part LinkedIn Live series for business owners, charity leaders, and comms pros who want to get smarter about how they show up on LinkedIn - without the jargon, overwhelm, or guesswork.

🎯 Episode 1: LinkedIn Pages & Employee Advocacy – What Works, What Doesn’t
🗓️ April 29th
⏰ 12.30
📍 Streaming live on LinkedIn and Facebook

We’ll be covering:

👉 Why LinkedIn Pages are so underused (and how to make yours shine)

👉 The big mistakes organisations make with employee advocacy (hint: mandating people to share posts isn’t the answer)

👉 Practical tips for improving your page and getting your team genuinely involved in boosting your brand

It’s free, informal, and packed with real-world advice for businesses, solopreneurs, charities, and freelancers who want to use LinkedIn better.

Drop me a comment if you’re interested or want the link!

Raising aspirations. Opening up access to top universities. Harnessing the power of volunteers and community. What’s not to like about

Last week saw the end of 18 months of working alongside an incredible team of dedicated marketing and communications specialists who live and breathe their mission (waving at you Melanie Ramsey I Oliver Adams and Dan Aukett)

Together, we built and tested Meta Ads for volunteer recruitment. We reviewed the organisation’s email communications developing a strategy to streamline production, and increase brand cohesion, and we developed a stewardship sequence to help bring the support offered by The Access Project to more schools and more students.

This is an ambitious and worthwhile organisation, and I’ve LOVED working with them. They have plans to reach 20,000 young people annually by 2029.

Young people on their programmes are 50% more likely to place at top universities compared with demographically and academically similar students.

The Access Project needs volunteer coaches and tutors to keep delivering their online sessions to under-resourced young people. If you think you could make a difference, I’d encourage you to volunteer with this incredible organisation and the inspiring young people they serve.

You can read Mel’s full review of working with me on my website, and if your organisation needs an extra pair of hands to finish a marketing / communications project then drop me a DM.

I've got the 'ick'.

I've changed some things in my business and now I know I have to tell everyone about it because that's business and that's how marketing works, right?

But I've still got the ick about it. Which I know is what a lot of my clients feel when they come to me about marketing themselves. So, I'm taking a deep breath and getting on with it...

After four years, I'm retiring TinCup Social and have rebranded to Helen Baimbridge Digital. (Phew! I did it.)

When I left the NHS, I'd been planning my redundancy for about 18 months. I clearly remember joining a webinar from home that showed my post would no longer be needed following a merger. After about three hours of 'oh sh*t' I started to realise what a HUGE opportunity this was.

I researched. I knew I needed digital skills for the next stage in my career. I found an amazing course being run by the powerhouses that are Kathryn Tyler and Nikki Cochrane. The timing for the start of the course was perfect. Last day at work, three weeks off, start course.

Then, pandemic. All sorts of curve balls and in the middle of it I had to name my business and get myself set up. Cue, name that was OK then but really doesn't fit what I do now.

So now, I'm Helen Baimbridge Digital and this is what I do:

👉 Provide consultancy to organisations that need to give their social media a bit of attention. Recently, I've worked with Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust delivering a strategy development day, helping them to feel more confident that their social media activity will do what they need it to.

👉 Generate leads and awareness using paid social media advertising for charities. I've recently worked with Lymphoma Action and today a client asked me to turn off their ads early as they'd met their targets 🙌 my kinda email.

👉 Support solo business owners to build their LinkedIn presence through content creation and engagement packages, profile upgrades or training.

I LOVE that what I do now enables me to use 25+ years of communication and engagement experience in the digital world. I LOVE that I can work with purpose-driven organisations and business owners.

Generally feeling pretty happy. There. No longer feeling the ick.

Thanks to Sweeta Patel for the lovely new logo and colours. And Ruth Gilbey for lots of gentle encouragement.

For the third year running, I’ve been supporting Lymphoma Action to raise funds and awareness of the signs and symptoms, and support available for those with lymphoma.

Did you know it’s the UK’s most common blood cancer?

The campaign has reached more people than last year (🙌🙌) which hopefully means we will have helped people with their lymphoma journey or to identify symptoms and seek the care they need.

Thanks are due to the incredible people who allowed us to feature their stories in our campaign.

I can’t wait to get stuck into crunching the numbers!

In the meantime, the symptoms of lymphoma are below. And the Lymphoma Action website has all the information you need to get support.

Maintaining a network of like minded colleagues is so important to me.

It was a complete joy to catch up with Corinne Wallington yesterday.

Corinne runs a local business network and is also a fellow marketer.

We talked about changes to our own businesses, plans for the future and playing an active role in our local communities - something that is important to us both.

Tag someone from you community and tell us all why you value them.

Who, exactly, do you think you're talking to?

If the answer is 'everyone' (old comms colleagues, simmer down, I can see you getting twitchy) I can guarantee that you're not really talking to anyone.

That's because the language that resonates with and reaches the ears of an 18-year-old woman is not the same as that of a 50-year-old woman. Or any other combinations of the wonderful, diversity that is us.

If you wonder why marketers and comms people always ask who your audience is, and who you are trying to reach, this is why.

When we don't *really* know who we are trying to reach, we need to take a step back and create audience personas (something else marketers talk about a lot).

An audience persona (or avatar, or ideal client) is a pen portrait of someone within your ideal audience. It is what allows your message to be authentic to the individual while you are talking to a group. It's a tool to help you write better.

If you haven't refreshed your audience personas in a while, it's time to dust them off and review them. Then review some of your most recent bits of marketing and communication to see if they are still fit for purpose.

I love sponsoring and working on the event. So lovely to see the community enjoy themselves.

Thanks to all the amazing venues and producers. And of course, the volunteers who work their socks off to make it happen.

Today, I’m volunteering with Media Trust for their annual Women’s Voices day.

I’ll work with other comms and marketing pros to support who run our national Honour Based Abuse Helpline.

When I started my own biz, I knew I wanted time to do pro bono and voluntary work. Today is one of my fave professional days of the year.

I see so many businesses getting participation in wrong. It’s not about reeling out pics of your female staff and declaring them fab. Or branding your products. It’s about taking action. About looking yourself in the mirror and saying that you are doing something to help.

If you want a great example of a small biz doing it right, head over to where they are using their skills to give back and raise money for their local refuge. Not for the glory or visibility. But because they can and because it’s the right thing to do. A small business getting it right when lots of larger ones don’t.
