Calculate your engagement rate with this simple maths equation.

***Full disclosure. Maths is not my forté. So rest assured, it’s an easy ‘siri-what’s-###-+###-divivdedby-###’ sort of equation.****

Whilst this does take a little bit of time, I’d argue it’s time well spent. I have found most online engagement rate calculators to be wildly inaccurate.

For an accurate and up-to-date figure:

1️⃣ Add up the likes and comments of your last 9 posts.

2️⃣ Add up the reach of your last 9 posts.

3️⃣ Divide the total number of likes and comments by the total reach of your last 9 posts.

4️⃣ Multiple by 100.

If you are considering working with an influencer to promote your business or brand, this is a very important step to take when you are vetting their page. A good overall engagement on their posts is a great indicator that they may be suitable to work with.

What is a ✨good engagement rate ✨ on Instagram?

I’d bet a lot of money that most people reading this post right now have had this question before. Have you tried googling it? If you have, I would also bet that you didn’t come away with a clear answer.

My answer? …It depends.

Let me try to clarify a little for you…

A ‘good’ engagement rate on Instagram differs from industry to industry.

My suggestion would be to select 3 (or more) of your competitors within your industry or niche and calculate their average engagement rate over their last 12 posts, and compare that with yours.

That way you will have a better understanding of where you lie within your area of expertise and if there is some room for improvement.

Trying to 🚀BOOST🚀your Instagram engagement?

Let’s first look at what is already working for you, because your account is unique and what your audience responds to, is going to be different from that of Susan’s down the road.

This isn’t rocket science and it may not be news to your ears, but it is a very important step to take when you are creating a content plan or strategy with a specific goal in mind.

Step 1: Head to your insights or ‘Professional Dashboard’ and sort by ‘Accounts Engaged’.

This will give you a great idea of the types of content that is resonating with your audience. Can you create more of this? A variation of this? A new series of this?

Try to incorporate more carousel posts into your content plan as they are the most engaging type of posts (excluding reels) with an average engagement rate of 3.11%.

I took a long break from posting on this account, and whilst I was away, (unsurprisingly) a lot happened within the social media stratosphere.

New apps have been released, some apps have withered away (what happened to Clubhouse?!), there have been new features, updates, algorithms, trends, and so much more! A lot has changed.

Personally, since my IG posting break, I have acquired a fully-fledged TikTok addiction. Anyone else?

I guess this post is primarily for my fellow social media geeks and freaks… What new additions do you love and what do you not love so much?

Thoughts on:

Threads? TikTok? Reels? Snapchat (I’ve noticed quite a few influencers heading this way!)? ChatGBT and social AI? … Anything else?

Hello! It’s me! Long time no see!

Whilst I’ve been silent on this page for quite some time, I’d love to say I have taken a long scroll-free break from social media, but alas, that is not the case.

I have continued to scroll social channels endlessly, keeping up-to-date on all the trends, updates, releases etc… whilst also continuing to work in my business with a few wonderful clients, helping them to navigate the realms of the ever-evolving social media stratosphere.

What have you been up to?

I have been thinking for some time now, that I might as well put my social media addiction to some use and start posting more regularly here again with tips, tricks, advice, general updates and more...
