It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of John Wilkinson – a man whose presence left a lasting impression on many, including myself. I had the privilege of photographing John last year at the candlelit service in Dromore Cathedral for the Paul Russell Foundation. That evening, he compared the Sacred Sounds concert with the quiet strength and grace he was so well known for.
Though I never had John as a Principal in Dromore High, I was able to study my A-Levels in Sixth Form from which he helped bring to life during his 19 years as Principal of Dromore High. The legacy he leaves there is undeniable – not just in the buildings or achievements, but in the values he lived by and instilled in others.
John was a proud Dromore man – committed to his school, his community, his faith, and most of all, his family. My thoughts are especially with Mrs Wilkinson, his children and grandchildren, and the wider community who are feeling this loss so deeply.
