Heading to Jazzfest Berlin this afternoon, so it was nice to be reminded by Facebook of this, in 2019...the Gropius Bau, where we performed Braxton's Sonic Genome. There's a piano high up inside that installation in the picture, and at some point in the night I was up there playing materials from compositions 30/31/32...tomorrow night, my setup will be only slightly more modest, as I play Hammond B3 with the mighty Joe McPhee in the Haus Der Berliner Festspiele. The photo of the band is by Joe Harris.

Musho: two concerts this week with the one and only Sofia Jernberg...on Friday, we make our first ever Stockholm appearance together...this is at the Moderna Museet. On Sunday, we then perform at the Jazzfest Berlin. As always, we would love to share the music with you! This photo is by the always amazing Petra Cvelbar from a performance at Jazz Cerkno back in May.

Had a great week in the studio with Mulatu Astatke (Official Artist Page) - watch this space on that one...for today: please do check out a nice interview I did with David Cristol over at the Free Jazz Blog, where I discuss some favourite albums! Thanks to Danny Keane for the photo.

I'll also be posting in the coming days about some exciting gigs coming up...including two with the one and only Sofia Jernberg (Stockholm Moderna Museet, 1/11, and Jazzfest Berlin, 3/11), and Decoy with Joe McPhee (Jazzfest Berlin, 31/10).

Next month, Marco Colonna and I will be playing our first concerts in the UK...you'll be able to hear our reworkings of the music of Eric Dolphy (the album is available on Fundacja Słuchaj), as well as Marco's beautiful originals. It's somehow my first time at the The Vortex Jazz Club in what seems like an age (that's October 2), and on October 4, we play at Wakefield Jazz. We'd love to see you! Tickets now available. This photo by our friend Luca A. d'Agostino.

This Saturday, Sofia Jernberg and I are performing at the wonderful Jazz Cerkno in Slovenia...it's a great bill of music, and it'd be great to see some friends there. I'm also really excited to be back at the moers festival this Friday, in an improvising quartet convened by the amazing Julia Brüssel, also featuring Emily Wittbrodt and Neil Charles. Thank you to Bálint Hrotkó and the BMC - Budapest Music Center for these photographs, taken on the first night of our recent tour.

WDR 3 and Niklas Wandt kindly made this feature about some of my music, available from today...as always, if you don't enjoy my playing, fear not - you can still dial me out and just listen to magicians like Sofia Jernberg, Angelika Niescier, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Anthony Braxton etc. for an hour or so! Amazing to play with Matt Wright's Spheric Totemic (featuring Mandhira de Saram - artist page, Neil Charles and Stephen Davis) the other day as part of this year's Sonorities festival (and, it goes without saying, a joy as always to play in the stunning space at SARC). Next up for me, can't wait for a short duo set with Angelika Niescier at the Deutscher Jazzpreis on Thursday night in Cologne.

I know that many of my friends will already be aware of the amazing Battiti (Radio 3) programme on Italy's Rai3...a wonderful nightly programme, curated by a deeply knowledgeable staff, headed up by Pino Saulo. Tonight, they're broadcasting my solo concert from the AngelicA - Centro di Ricerca Musicale - Teatro San Leonardo in Bologna last year - please check it out! This photo (from that performance) by Margherita Caprilli.

In the 'Page One' column of this quarter's Point of Departure, there's a deep dive on my work by the brilliant Bill Shoemaker, to whom I'm extremely grateful. Please check it out. This picture by the always amazing Žiga Koritnik (whose work Bill and I got to discuss when hanging out in Frederick, MD a few weeks ago!).
