Sending our first invoice of 2023 gave us pause for thought. A little code at the top was the first reminder that this year marks 50 years since my dad - Dick Sefton, opened Pollen Studio.
Starting with a bank loan in a small studio room recording Punk rock bands like UK Subs and Stiff Little Fingers, purchasing Otari 16 track tape decks in the 80s (that were more expensive than the mortgage on the family home) to record the original Oxford Story and first museum, purchasing our first and cameras, to working in VR, non linear filming and XR.
I was lucky to grow up around film and audio and can still remember stumbling in to recording sessions with Sir Alec Guinness, Dame Judi Dench and Sir Harry Secombe (I have a signed autograph from Sir Alec Guinness that also says "from Obi Wan" due to my confusion at who I was actually meeting).
We are truly grateful to every client that has trusted us with projects large and small, and those that have left a mark on us like the Forever Project. , Katie Blake, Lara Munden, - it's hard to express our gratitude at being involved with work of such magnitude, but thank you.
It's been a long journey, marked with some incredible projects, difficult times and most of all an absolute love and passion for what we do. Well done Dad and Happy 50th Pollen Studio. This year has some special work to come, and we are looking to the future with Virtual Production, depth tracked filming and much more.
