Vintage jewellery and watches will once again be main features in Vicenza from 4th to 7th September with VO Vintage, the B2C marketplace where a selection of leading Italian and international dealers specialising in vintage jewellery and collectable timepieces will gather in Hall 8.1 at Italian Exhibition Group’s Expo Centre.

Researchers at GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and the Gübelin Gem Lab independently examined copper-bearing tourmaline from a newly reported source in Ethiopia.

Following separate investigations, both laboratories established sufficiently documented reference material and comprehensive analytical datasets to confirm that Ethiopia is a new source of copper-bearing tourmaline that meets the widely accepted definition of paraíba tourmaline.

Reports of copper-bearing tourmaline from Ethiopia began circulating in the gemstone trade earlier in 2026, followed by industry reports and social media posts with preliminary observations of material attributed to the new deposit. Recognizing the significance of a potential new source of paraíba tourmaline, both GIA and the Gübelin Gem Lab independently undertook detailed investigations. Both laboratories chose to wait until the provenance of their reference samples could be established with confidence and sufficiently comprehensive analytical datasets had been collected before announcing their conclusions.

The investigations were conducted independently, using separately acquired reference samples that were analyzed using each laboratory’s respective research protocols. The findings of GIA and Gübelin Gem Lab are consistent in confirming the emergence of an important new source of copper-bearing tourmaline from Ethiopia. Read more, see link in bio.
